Tire size

Has anyone tried a 235/60/17 on a 2006 base model? I can't find any info on possible rubbing issues.

I haven't; but you can make a good estimate of whether they will rub by comparing the tire outside diameter to your current tires. What size are your current tires?

currently have 235/55/17. Not much difference really but don't want to tear up new tires.

If you go to Tire Rack and find the actual tire that you looking at and then go to the specs tab. You will see a listing of all the info for every size offered for that tire.
This page shows more than an inch difference in Diameter. This may throw your speedometer off by quite a bit without recalibrating it.

Ok thank you. Trying to see if it will rub. Probably going to stay with the 235/55/17 an inch just might rub when I turn.

2006 Mustang GT shows two (factory) size options: 235/55/17 & 235/50/18. What about 235/60/17?

Let’s input those numbers on RimsNTires
1. 235/55/17 = 27.2” (690mm)
2. 235/60/17 = 28.1” (714mm)

Suspension/ Fender clearance shows the same. Will fill out the wheelwell by extra 12 mm. Acceptable for most cars. When speedometer reads 60mph (96.6km/h) actual speed will be 62.1mph (100km/h): 3.5% faster.

So they are little taller, fills gap 12mm more, and reads a little faster. If the car is not lowered, then it seems to be ok.

I would stay factory sized... unless you already bought the tires. Otherwise consider 18-19” rims for shorter (40-50) sidewall. 60 & up feels like a truck tire to me.

Thank you, yeah that's probably what I'll do. Not too crazy about the lower profile tires but will probably stick with them. Appreciate your help.

I have read that Ford still sizes the wheels and fender openings to accommodate tire chains on the original size tires. So that means you have at least 1/2" extra space on the radius or 1" on the diameter. So I think the taller tires would be OK but can't guarantee it.

Personally I am not crazy about the super low profile tires either, for street use around here, because there are too many potholes and other things that could damage the wheel; but I am talking 30 or 35 aspect ratio on 19" or 20" wheels. 60 aspect ratio is pretty tall and squishy for my preferences but it's your car so it's your preference.

I changed to BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2's in the factory size. They're also a little taller, and alter the speedometer reading a little.

But they are the best tire decision I made for the Mustang. They stick to the road like glue, corner well, and are secure feeling in the wet. Ride is quieter too. I will be getting them again.

No rubbing at all, by the way.

Except you failed to mention the Comp TA's were discontinued quite some time ago and replaced by the G-Force Sport Comp 2 tires. Therefore where and how are you going to be able to get them again lol? However, if the Sport Comp 2's are similar and provide a slightly taller sidewall as the Comp TA's? then perhaps the Sport Comp 2's would be a possible option for the OP to consider

Yeah, I realized I had not originally posted the tire type correctly. Went back and fixed it. Good catch.
