My point is, If I want to get my tires rotated and balanced I'm not going to be afraid of the tire guy messing up my $150 stock wheel. Now, If he does mess it up, I'm not going to let slide. I'll hold him be responsible for it same as anything else. I'll continue weigh convenience versus risk. But I have my limits. One thing i won't due is let the teen punks at the "quicklube" change my oil.

Take mine to my local Ford store until out of warranty. On a previous car they stripped a lug and stud, didn't get noticed until the next rotation was due, about 6mos later. Because of all the history, they repaired and had to replace the wheel as well, as it was damaged when the useless lug and stud was removed. Get a good relationship with your Ford service manager and minor issues get taken care of. If he is a jerk, call the local Ford regional rep. Believe me, Ford wants your business!

That's for sure!

I had my wife look at the wheel as a reality check. She is "outspoken" as in has no problem sending whole meals back at a restaurant. Often.

I had to point out the blemish to her a couple of times before she could find it and said she would have never noticed it. She agreed that it was definitely not worth taking back, but that I should mention it the next time I have it serviced (in case I don't change dealerships 1st!)

You never use a torque wrench to loosen the nuts.

Tire rotation was a part of the 15,000 mile service I recently had performed. I watched, nervously, from just outside the service bay door. When he was about to remove the tires, I ran in and begged him to be extra careful, pointing out the gouges caused by a careless flat repair. He said he understood and all was well. (except for that cabin air filter trouble.)
