Can ANYONE tell me what those two little white plastic rings that are sitting loosely under the hood, near the drivers side door (where the A/C lines sweat)?? Huh? Anyone? I've seen this on every single GT I've seen and no one can tell me what the heck they are there for. Maybe this has already been discussed, but I can't seem to find it if it's been covered.

I'm seriously thinking of cutting them off.

They drive me crazy!

I think they were there to keep the hose end locking mechanism open prior to the hose being connected .

I cut 'em off . . . the car is much faster now without them .

Yup. 1/2 oz. of weight ought to give you atleast .1 quicker in the quarter and 1-2 mph

Yep, without those rings it's a real PITA to get the connections together. I'll have to cut mine out of there next oil change.

I asked a Ford engineer about these rings during the Downriver Cruise and he told me they were there as a visual aid to let the plant workers know that the high pressure hoses were installed properly. Apparently, it requires very high efforts to fully seat these hoses. The rings are initially attached to the hose and will not "detached" unless the hose is fully seated. Feel free to cut them off. They don't serve any function besides providing a positive confirmation that the hose is seated.

Better save them... in 30 years, restorers will be killing themselves to locate a set!

Lots of good info here. I think I'll keep them on for future value and maybe look for extras to save in case they fall off. You guys at the factory should grab a hand full NOW!

hey look at it this way...when you go to a car show and they judge it...they look for all factory markings....ect..ect...ect..30yrs from you know people will try to duplacate them..i know that`s a long time from now but they will be classic`s some day and probaly one of the most remembered years..for the whole new design.. but until then i am enjoying the car...i dont care what`s it worth 30yrs from now... i live life day to day cause you never know what could happen...

I was thinking the same thing !! That'll be 2 points off (a point for each) in the Concours Driven class at the 2035 MCA Grand National.
