Think you are priority 10? Think again...

On my DORA sheet, it said I was a priority 10. After not hearing anything about my car since november 22nd, I decided to go to the dealership yesterday. They had the sheet out that has all the orders on it, and I am a priority 17 on it. I asked how I went from a 10 to a 17, and they said its because 10 was just used to place the order, and then it was changed. I bet this is a common thing for dealers to do to people.

Very common apparently. My dealer did it to me too. I ordered in October and confronted them in December about why my order had not been pulled. They finally messed up and mentioned I was at priority 12 now and it would be pulled soon. I asked how I went from 10 to 12 and they admitted they changed it to a 20 and put non IUP cars in front of mine. They claimed they would lose allocation if they didn't but I don't know if that's true or not. THis whole thing is rather frustrating!! :bang:

my dealer put me priority 45 seems a few of these dealers really just want to test us

I wish someone could give us the real scoop on how all this works. I was a 20 when I orderd, now I'm a 12. They said that I was second in line for them. They move the priority by ordered # of that vehicle. That the way my dealer explained it to me. Just put me in line and get me my car.... I have a check for $25g burning a hole in my pocket!!!

I placed my order on 10/27/04. Finally in dec. I asked for a copy of the dora so I could call the auto. line myself and the sheet says that my order date is 12/17/04. I don't want to ask about it cause I afraid I will lose it!

This is the real scoop on how all this works.
Priority numbers are used by a dealer internally to prioritize their own order bank.
Sold orders are from 10 to 40. The lower the number the higher the priority. An order will default to 40 if a number is not specifically assigned.
Priority numbers less than 10 are used for scheduling by the Ford Regional Office and are out of the dealer's control. Orders for stock units default to 80.
A dealer's allocation is negotiated with Ford for the vehicle line as well as the commodity being restricted (in this case the IUP).
Vehicles are serialized weekly with the highest priority chosen first depending on commodity restrictions.
For example: a dealer has allocation for 4 Mustangs with 1 IUP (25%) commodity allowance and has 4 sold orders - all IUP.
The system would serialize the highest priority sold order (whether it is 10 or 40 or in between, or oldest order if they are all the same priority) then look for 3 stock non-IUP units to fill the balance of the order commitment.
The other sold IUP orders will be passed by till the next week's allocation, whatever the priority number.
Personally, I input every sold order as 40 then adjust weekly depending on allocation and commodities. That way I am only changing priority on the orders to be built that week, rather than the whole order bank. It must be constantly monitored anyway.

I will take it. Thanks, make check payable to Altoid. I'm sure the bank won't mind.

Wow thanks Steve!
That's the best explanation I've seen so far on how the whole order process works.
It is especially important now that I too have joined the ranks of ‘The Waiting’…
