Ford had regional debuts of the '94 Mustangs, I went to Chattanooga,Tn. to check it out. They had a very good showing and the car was very well received.

I'll admit the internet has had a little bit to do with why the '05 has gotten more buzz than the '94, but most of it has to do with the car itself. Like someone else said, a lot of people didn't like them. Especially Fox fans. That body style REALLY took some getting used to.
Heavier car with less power? That was a sore spot for me back then.

I pre-ordered a 1994 GT same as I did with my '05. The car took 5 months from order to delivery due to a material hold on two 'Hot' options.
The brand new Mach 460 sound system and leather interior ... Ford had underestimated demand .. sounds familiar doesn't it.
I also purchased in 1987. By June (when I was looking to buy) of that year GT's were sold out and the dealers did not expect any until the 1988's hit in late summer of 1987. I purchased a clean used one with 3,00 miles on it for a really good price.
Funny how as much as things change they stay the same!

According to the papers, Ford had 22,000 orders the first day back in April '64.
Over 600,000 were produced in one year alone (three plants). Anybody know what the orders were for the first day for the '05?

My brother received one of the first '65's here, a 2+2 Red 289 4-speed and the reaction was similar to the '05. When driving down the road people would come up next to you and want to talk from car to car. Pulling in for gas meant everyone in the station would be grouped around new new Mustang. He let me use it on my prom night which I'll never forget. Oh, the stories!

Motor Trend named the 1994 Mustang GT their "Car of the Year."

All I can tell you is that I still drive my 95 GT daily (essentially the same car as the 94), and it is still a great car. 105K miles, and it runs like new and except for a couple parking lot scratches, looks like new too. So I have no problem with MT naming it car of the year.

I just like to clarify, I think every year Mustang is my car of the year, I just think if you look back on MT history of the car of the year most years they are a joke, their award means nothing to me, if it did I would have gone nuts this year.
How do you think the 05 will be as a driver?

I remember my brother purchased a Fairlane 2-dr sport coupe ('62) but didn't want to do much in the way of mods because of the impending Mustang. I don't think we knew at the time the actual name. There were always partial pictures, artist renderings, etc. in the mags. My dad knew the owner of a Ford dealership who took care of getting him the car before they were suppose to release it. I know it was an extremely long wait though.

I remember the reception to the '94 among my Mustang buddies being tepid at best. To most of us it was fatter and slower than the model that it replaced. Kind of like when the '71 was introduced... I don't remember any real buzz with the general public ?
As for the '05 however, I don't know any of my Mustang buddies that don't like, even the vintage guys who don't think that they've built a real Mustang since '69 like it!
As for the general public, with the possible exception of the new beetle, I don't think that there has been a new car released in recent memory that has created such a stir!
There have been pictures and articles in every main stream magazine and newspaper that I can think of. IMHO, Ford blew the greatest marketing opportunity since '64, by not releasing it last April as a 2004 1/2 to coincide with the anniversary.

It seems like I heard somewhere that they were trying for an 04-1/2 but couldn't pull it off. Anyway we all know they wern't busy stocking up on IUP's or perfecting the Shaker.
