Test drove an 05 GT manual- Illinois
Long time lurker, First time poster
First of all, thanks for having such a wonderful site, I have found a great deal of information. I have been a stang fan since I got my first one at age 14, a 1972. It was used and abused when I got it but it was a very fun car. Nothing special about it but it was my first car. I have not been as excited about any mustang since the body style change of 1974.
I test drove a black GT, IUP, red leather seats, 17 in wheels, at Mike Murphy Ford in Morton Illinois. (Just outside of Peoria)
I am a big guy, 6'1 330lbs. It was very easy for me to sit comfortably in this car. I have test driven the 04's Gt, Mach 1, and Cobra; and there was no comparison. It was that nice. I was very afraid I would not fit into the car comfortably. I was able to shift the 5-speed without hitting my knee on the steering wheel, which happened in the 04's. Yes my wide load fit in the seat and I had shoulder room.
The 05 GT handled great. The steering was very tight. Shifting was smooth. I know people have been speculating about this car being faster than the 04 mach 1, but I do not feel that the torque is there. The Mach 1 just seemed to have that much more power. I am not saying that this one was slow by any means, but the mach 1 was that much quicker. The acceleration was great, and it jumped to 90 mph going from the ramp to the highway very quickly. I took it for about a 25 mile spin and had the time of my life.
The sales rep said they were more than willing to to go below MSRP. I am going to wait on the convertible. (The wife wants the vert, had she not been there
)Thanks again for a great site. I have learned quite a bit and really appreciate having found a site where most are really generally excited about our new Stang.
Morton got this one in on Wed. There was a blue v-6 on the truck when they delivered the black GT. As of Wed morning, there were no other dealers in Peoria who had the 05. Uftrig (whom I will not buy from) has already stated they are going to sell for MSRP and not under. I do not know about Galesburg.
It was there Wed night when I took my test drive. If they have sold it, I do not know. their PH# is (309) 263-2311 I have been working with a salesman by the name of Brent Salisbury. I was one of a couple different people there that night for a test drive.
Edit: They only had the one in. The Sonic Blue v-6 was on the truck and I do not know where it was headed. Sorry if I did not make that clear.
