Badandy, how do you like the smoothness of your V6. (I think it was Autoweek that criticized that. Saying it was better than the last Stang-6, but still a little rough compared to other 6's). Did you drive an GT as well to compare? (Just curious)....

Personally, I think the 6 has respectable performance numbers and would be a nice daily driver, with better fuel economy, insurance, and probably less likely to get tickets. While still having more power than any of us really need.

I've got about 100 miles on mine, so haven't leaned on it really hard. These cars are going to need gears to really wake up....just like the early cobras IMHO. It pulls really hard above 3500 RPM. SOTP, my Bullitt comes off the line harder but runs out around 5000 or so. This thing wants to pull forever.

Don't forget none of the 05's are broken in yet. They will get faster.

Oh. I'm sorry lead you astray. I don't have a new V6. I left the word "meant" out of the sentence. It should be inserted after "just".

Sorry, my bad.

So a new v6 is as fast as a 04 gt vert? I am not buying that one just yet.

The 05 tears up the Mach in 0-60 runs. Also, when it breaks in, it will be faster than the mach.
Badandy,
I couldn't agree with you more. There are certain things built into the SN95 that make it SEEM faster than it really is. My '97 Cobra with the minimal mods I had could take a Mach, not by longshots but it could. This car is so much more refined and quiet not to mention stable, it's difficult to really feel how fast it is. Someone stepping out of the '05 and into the Mach MIGHT feel as if their car is faster just because of the additional noise and general business that goes on while driving an SN95.

There will undoubtedly be Mach/'05 comparisons made very shortly. I'm sure the mags will sort it out for us, but in my opinion the '05 can handle a Mach.

My advice for all those worried about the numbers, go to the track if you wanna see some real times (you might be surprised what you see), the rags only give you a basic idea. Just because a car has X amount of horse power and weighs x amount of pounds, doesn't necessarily mean one is faster that much faster then another. The driver plays a huge part in the equation. Instead of getting wrapped up in all the whoppla and numbers, just go out and enjoy your new car for what it is, a badarse, rwd V8 American muscle machine.

CatmanJJ. I completely agree with you on the numbers don't tell the whole story. (I tell the same people the same thing about computers). And I completely believe that most cars abilities are beyond most drivers abilities to fully exploit. With a little tuning today's street stangs can compete with LeMans winners of a 30-40 years ago -- but the drivers couldn't. Still. I'm a techno-weenie. While I understand the numbers don't tell the whole story, I'm trying to learn what story they are telling.

I agree, I'm a geek on numbers too, like hp, torque, gear ratio, weight, tranny ratio etc., but I know not to live and die by them ya know. I mean this Mustang and all others for that fact are so much more then just numbers, at least in my eyes they are. B)

I am going to try and reply to ALL of you guys..............

First off i LOVe the new car

The car i drove was not a demo they just got it in yesterday......Haldelman Fored in NJ look it up.....

You guys can say ALL you want all i know is that the car does not pull anywhere NEAR a MACH!

As a matter of fact the car loses muster high in the power band!

Go test the car out for yourselves!

You will ALL see what i am talking about!

i live in the NY area....this is a MUSTANG not a LAMBHORGINI so you can test drive it all you want!

I cant wait to get mine

Look, I am a MUSTANG enthis. just like all of you....so i wanted to share my experieance with the 05 with you and let you know what i thought

When you guys drive it you will see and feeel it just like i have and just like all the owners have

We have ALOT of members who ALREADY have the car and they are not saying much about Power....why is that?????

Ill tell you why...it is b/c the car is OVERATED!

Not that it is a bad thing (like someone posted)

It is a TRULY beautiful car and i ABSOLUTELY love it!

All im saying is that it is NOT faster than a MACH.........END OF STORY!

I think that the car is a little faster than a 04 GT

From what i felt with a GREAT driver the car should do a 13.6---- 14.0

I cannot wait to get mine (8- 12 weeks)

Go test drive it guys.....tell me what YOU think...i wanna hear

As for me....I love mustangs... and i love this car and the previous one

BUT dont compare it to a MACH...compare it to an 04 GT

SMOKE those RICE basterds!
Great post. Thanks for the honest response. You know I also wondered that from the lucky few that have received the '05 why no big deal has been made about the power. Not many have given any feedback at all, postive or negative. To be honest its been sort of weird hearing the type of feedback from people who have driven/own the '05. There seems to be a lot people saying "great interior", "great smooth ride", or that it "out-handles the fox platform." It doesn't seem like mustang enthusiasts are testing these cars by the responses I have been reading.

I do have a sneaking suspicion that these cars are not as quick as most have hoped. Let me pose this question...If this car ran a 13.3 or lower I think you would see this all over the forums. I gotta think that someone, somewhere has taken this car to the track...why no info. This is killing me. When the 99 GTs came out MMFF and everyone and their brother had times on these cars. Some people were picking up their cars, grabbing their helmets and going to the track. Whats the big secret? [/b][/quote]
that's the same thing it's been crossing my mind for a while.
where are the owners track times ??????
remember when the goat came and those few people (poor guys ) where jumping into the tracks to try out their latest ls1 puppies???,they did it quick and clear, and we have a lot less of those cars on the market, but we have guys out there with new gt's already, and nobody, I REPEAT, NOBODY, has said anything in regards of the power of this car compared to any other car on the road. i think i read something about somone beating up a 350z, but loosing against an old gt
all we've seen is 14's cars out there, and a 13.6@99mph from motortrend, maybe a ringer from ford ???, who knows,i don't get the "smooth power", or "the engine hasn't broken in yet" excuses, where are the guys that did 14's on private tests???, i bet those engines are fully broken in by know, where are the new times ????? , or where are the dynos at least ????

Probably. I know driving a Lexus doesn't feel like it is going fast, while driving a mustang slowly feels like it is fast .
you are right on I've had a mach 1 and its very crude compared to a '05 GT.Plus the new GT hooks up really well and my '03 mach was a real pain to launch at the strip.
