I don't mean to burst your bubble, but..... The heritage of the GT-350 is as a road race car. It won the SCCA B production class national champioinship for several years.

To me that means a modern GT-350 would have to have IRS. We've already discussed here that the reason for the SVT Cobra being delayed to a 07 model year may be that the IRS is not ready. So that seems to rule out a GT-350. Although your 350HP - 3V - 4.6L theory is a good one as it sounds like with a little tuning they can easily get 350 HP out of it.

There is, of course, always the possibility that Ford shocks all of us comes up with an all new name for the first SE.

On the ram air thing, there is only 2 kinds of air in all of automobiledom. hot air and cold air. Ram air is a gimick unless you've got something that goes faster than the speed of sound.

That said, shaker scoops and hood scoops do look pretty dern cool. just like if they would add a bit of stroke to the 4.6 and slap on a 289 HI-PO badge. A shaker and 289 HI-PO badges have got to be worth what? Like 500 Bench Horse Power.

Hmmm, then why do F1 and Indy cars have those big engine air intake scoops on them? And why did (at different times) both F1 and the IRL make the teams cut holes in the back or sides of the air intake boxs to reduce the ram air effect in order to make for a quick horsepower reduction?

A 289 Hi-Po was a special high performance version of the 289 V8 which I belive was offered in 1966 and 1967. It is also know as a "K Code" because the K in the VIN designated it was a 289 Hi-Po, which IIRC was rated 275 HP. IIRC the badge was a wide V on a checkered background (or was is barred) with "289" in the middle. I'm drawing a blank, because IIRC there were more than 1 different 289 badges in different colors that were used on some of the other 289 engines . Been there done that, had a '67 K-Code fastback.

No wonder my memory was a bit foggy, it had both a chekerd and a barred background.

IMO, if next springs SE is either a Bullitt, Shelby, Boss or Mach, I bet it will be a Shelby GT350.

This is assuming it WILL be one of those, which it may not.

Think of this:

Shelby GT350 = 350hp which I'm sure they can get with higher compression etc. out of the 4.6L 3valve N/A.

Add a hoodscoop which have been rumoured for this SE and maybe a ducktail??

Some GT350 stripes, maybe some interior pieces and presto, you have a relatively simple SE.

If the 295rwhp is true, it wouldn't take much to have a 350hp SE. Ford could also have listed the car at 300hp to make sure there was a 50hp gap between cars.

Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud here. Probably overly optimistic with the power gains but WHY NOT? Ford should be riding the shelby wave and keep enthusiasm up.

Either way, I hope we find out what this SE is all about by the fall.
Gotta be a Mach1, that's what i'm hoping for, if that's what coming in March '05, i'm already buying it. I'm already loosing sleep over it. :worship:

Thanks for the info, V10 and Galaxie. I have an opinion on the SE. What if, like a couple people have mentioned, this is going to be a completely new SE, with a new look and new name? This is a completely redesigned Mustang. That's what I'm leaning to at this point. Although a Mach would be real sweet.

I'd be pretty happy also, but I doubt ford would bring back the Mach name again. It would really **** current owners off I think.

However, there was a rumour way back that the mach 1 would become part of the lineup as a GT upgrade. And it would be the easiest upgrade package as there won't be IRS.

Who knows

I also doubt Mach 1 (or Bullitt). They have been done, time to move on. I say Boss or Shelby. I think Shelby because of the "alliance" with C Shelby. The GT-R really had Boss in its veins, though.

Hum.....I did think about that after I posted. But Ford may try to pass the 3-link setup off as a racing suspension (Saleen uses it also).

I don't know how they could make an anniversary package out of it....what, happy 41'st anniversary ??? Okay Ford.

It could be the 1st Anniversary of the 40th Anniversary ...

Or, it could be a new name for an SE, like Bullit was in 01 and based on some Mustang heritage idea. I dunno. I have to think it WON'T be called a Mach 1 or a Bullitt. I also doubt shelby ...

Maybe a King Cobra.

I can almost guarantee you won't see "Cobra" as part of the name.

Exactly, any Shelby we see I think will totally be dedicated to racing. I think the Shelby will be the last SE to be introduced. After the Cobra, and the Mach 1 are here, then we will probably see the Shelby.

I think it will be much lighter than all of the other Mustangs, and probably no backseat. I have been thinking it will be very much like a Cobra R.

I bet the first SE or SVT is the 07 Cobra, just like the SVT mailing said.

SVT yes, but SE is another story. Ford doesn't need SVT to make, say, a "California Special"..

They don't need them, no. But I bet they make the first variant.
