I currently have mine laying in the center console. I did have it sort attached to the lid with the swivel mount slid in the groove of the prongs on the lid. I have not found a home for it. Profit mount seems like best option but I don't want to clutter the interior. I just can't bring myself to sticking the swivel mount between the AC vents.
I have to say that I had mine mounted near the map lights and eventually had to get rid of it. Pic here:

I loved how clean the install looked with all the wires hidden and no use of tape, but it was really distracting and non-ergonomic to use. Surfing through channels was a nightmare because you had to keep your arm raised the whole time which, after 10 seconds, is really uncomfortable. It is also not a good place to divert your eyes to while trying to keep an eye on the road (I actually started getting eye strain). After a year I ditched it and got the OEM SIRIUS unit that works through the headunit. Sooo much better not that I can rest my arm on the shifter.
I'd try to keep at mid level... too high or too low makes it difficult to use. GRAYPNY's location is probably pretty good.

I too am considering putting the OEM Sirius unit on my 07 vert. I am concerned though about having a hole drilled in my trunk for the antenna.
How was the antenna mounted on yours? How long have you had it and have you had any problems with rust, etc??
Any input would be appreciated!

If you got the cash, then you can't go wrong with the OEM unit. I didn't do the stock antenna install on the trunk though. I mounted it on the package tray in the rear window and haven't had any reception problems. I wasn't to keen on drilling a hole in my car.
For three antenna install options (stock/package tray/under package tray) check out this post. My guess is that if the antenna works under the package tray, it should also work "seeing" through your rag top. But someone else may want to verify that.

My OEM SIRIUS unit install is here but check out the rest of the thread for good info on the unit and install tips. I didn't do the OEM install on this either. The OEM install is in the trunk, I mounted it right next to the head unit:
