At ~$27K a GT is hardly a economy car, and NO ONE can site one car costing over $16K in North America that has a solid axle. (snip)

They also drive on a perfectly flat track, and in a cirle. Their suspension is setup to go in a cirlce. 4 left turns. That doesn't sound at all like my commute to work, sorry. Ever see what happens on the "road race" courses...half of them crash. Please can we stop bringing up the fact that NASCAR uses live axles. It's not really applicable.

Just a comment about American car co's can't compete, not entirely true. Look at Cadillac, the new Cadillac, awsome cars, considering a CTS w 6 sp 05 for my finance and our planned family. True that Ford is loosing it's edge............the 500 is dull/doomed with the flamboyant Chrysler 300 on the road, just like the 05 Mustang will be a sitting duck for some Korean company to enhance it's shortcomings, then eat it's lunch, ala Tarus, Crown Vic etc over the past several years by the Japanese, sad but true. This disturbs me, but as they say FMC and GM is their worst own enemy.....................I try to buy American whenever competitive, just seems that they are 'givning' away market share by not really trying, saving $600 and installing a primative live axle..................go figure, and after over 20 yrs with the same Fox chassis, would think they could amortize the development cost to nearlly nothing...............just cheap and dumb!!!!

Exactly the attitude that is killing them...thank you for proving my point Av.
The mustang wont have 800hp. Maybe NASCAR NEEDS the live axle so it doesnt break, but the mustang doesnt. It's cost cutting, plain and simple.

Yes, you are correct, excluding trucks for it's 5K pound plus towing ruggedness, something I don't think is relevant to this conversation, all the cars you site are the SAME chassis, old/dying Ford products...................I rest my case. They are also old people cars because they handle as in wallow, you and the rest of us know this, so really a meaningly argument. I realize I can't convert the die hards, and that's fine, just wanted a little balance in this thread..............I'm finished

"I would even pay an extra $2000.00 for an IRS Mustang equipped identically to a GT with a solid axle."
Agreed.
But I doubt it matters - I expect thattghe IRS will only be available on the uplevel (Cobra - or whatever) version(s).
sigh.
- Ray
Not nearly as concerned about tenths in a drag race or around a road course as everyday 8 tenths street driving . . .

Dude, it's not worth it...we are arguing with people that grew up thinking disc brakes were an "innovation", and 20mpg is "amazing" mileage. My advice to you is to go drive a 330Ci. Forget fit and finish, price, etc. Just drive it. THAT is what ford should have tried to copy, the whole thing, not a half assed attempt. It was well within their grasp. They gave in to this BS nostalgia.

YES IT DOES. That is exactly what it matters for. Ride quality, driving dynamics.
