Snow Traction
Ok, now that a full winter season has passed; could I get a good reading on the snow and ice abilities of the GT? I'm considering one as a year round daily driver in upstate NY. I had a 94' that was quite an adventure; although I only went offroad once in 6 years. The main problem was getting stuck in driveways and such, any hill would stop it dead, even with Happakallita(sp) snow tires.
Please include the winter tires that you used.
And please, we know that all of you in the South and West are blessed with perfect weather.
Thanks

I'm in the "south" with perfect weather - except for the intense rain, softball sized hail, hurricanes, ice storms and extreme heat. However, I would imagine your Stang would do just fine with the posi-rear end (close enough, I leave two even marks when applying the accelerator), a good set of BF Goodrich tires and a couple sand bags in the trunk. Really, I think you'd be all right
I'm from Alaska - if you have two tires turning in the back with good tires and extra weight, you can go just about anywhere the snow isn't deeper than the bumper!

wow... i'm impressed... when I opened this thread I expected to find some response about how a Mustang should be garaged all winter.
I too will be driving my Mustang year round (though I have a V6). This is my first rear drive car and I'm a bit concerned. I figure a nice set of snow tires and I'll be good.

Now put the flame guns away before you bash me for saying.....use the search. Winter is over and several of us have already gone to great lengths describing what winter tires we put on, how they performed, etc.. Don't put any sand bags in the back because if you start to spin out it decreases your chances of recovery drastically. I used Michelin X-Ice tires and they were awesome, even at high speeds.
I have a V6 with stock tires which I have heard are not the greatest and had to drive a good distance in the worst storm of the season with no major problems. Main key is to take it slow when the weather is bad, plus get good snow tires.
I have a V6 too, and I have driven it in winters for the past 4 years. Drives fine in snow. Yes it slips and slides, you just need to know how to counter steer. It's no worse then any other car on the road in my opinion. Just gotta know how to drive in snow:
Being light on the gas and brake
take turns slowely
drive slowly

Thanks for the responses. No flame, but as to the search advice, what if I can learn something beyond that in the archives, for instance from someone new to the forum.

When you use the forum search, it searches from the time you hit the search button all the way back to the begining of the forum. So therefore any n00b would come up in your searches.

By the way, I used stock tires on some snowy days and did not have a problem. I did not drive extensively in snow though.

Snow?....That's why I have a 4X4 pickup for the trips to Tahoe
I drive it all year round on a/s tires in PA weather. The only time I leave her home is if the roads are really bad. Other than that, she makes the trip to/from work each day and gets a bath one a week.
