[Next time you want to post an opinion, make it at least somewhat accurate.
Which is why I put "PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong" at the start of my post.

Thanks for doing just that. We all aspire to your God-like perfection.

I did not include this option in my order, thought it may be cumbersome to work around

they are in the seats, and it doesnt make the seat any larger

Normal people know a lot about a couple things.
Smart people know a couple things about many things.
Geniuses know many things about many things.

Live by it.

They are in the seats!!!

Also, if you want a negative...as pitiful an excuse as it may be...you cannot put probably 90% of custom covers on a seat that contains side airbags.

Had no problem trying on a couple sets of covers on my seats. Did not like how the covers looked at all with the IUP though.

I'm not saying they won't fit, I mean most are not designed to open for the side airbag deployment.

Well you can put them on though
It would just defeat the purpose. Though I think the force of the side of the seat tearing open would rip the cover too.

No, it's in the trunk.

Maybe.

But it'll tear at the weakest point on the cover. Who knows...with enough force it might could tear it away from under your behind and you'll have a nice fuzzy/leather balloon against the door.

Just get a seat cover that works with the side air bags, there are sure to be more and more available. Especially when side air bags are mandatory in a few years.

The airbag is in the seat. The reason for the requirement to order the IUP package is do to the door material

IUP, softer / flexable door panel
NO IUP has a harder plastic door panel I am told and they were worried about the shattering in cold weather when the bag deployed.

Yes there are sensors in the door and you don't want to use a slim Jim to open the door or you may set off the airbag.

They are in the seat, not the door.... there is a little "air bag" tag on the outboard side (near the shoulder) if each seat if equipped... Mine has this option... And with this you should save some dough on you insurance... over the long haul, it could likely pay for itself... And if you should be the unfortunate victim of a side collision - It'll likely pay for itself a thousand fold....

have you ever seen anyone with a chest tube secondary to fractured ribs from a t-bone collision? I see them all the time......they are not worth the risk. Side airbags reduce fractured ribs and thereby reduce collapsed lungs . I wish this thing had head airbags!

I think that wonderful safety foam like they had in "Demolition Man" would be better.

Here is something to ponder. Fatalities are decreased by 35% with side impact airbags. They just had a special about it on the news.

I have read thru several threads where each person who has ordered included the side airbags in their options ?, I did not include this option in my order, thought it may be cumbersome to work around , etc etc, also I admit, I just don't know much about em.

Are they worth having ? yea, or, nay...Thanks in advance...

How about if someone runs a light and they hit you or your passenger BROADSIDE....they just might save your life! I,personally, think the $200-300 investment is wise; it probably will lower your insurance abit also.

I've heard that the folks who outfitted the covers on the Westrenz 'Stang at the NAIAS refused to outfit cars with side impact airbags. I suppose they are afraid of litigation arising from accident victims who say their airbags didn't deploy because the custom seat covers didn't allow them to deploy.
