I thought they were in the doors as well, unable to confirm as of yet though...

PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong...
I thought the Institute of Highway safety just tested a bunch of cars with side airbags and only one (an import I think) showed any decrease in driver/passenger injuries. Basically, the idea is nice and the potential is great but the logistics aren't there yet. But I would assume almost anything would help. Just reducing the amont of glass flying at you would be beneficial.
As for "with it, you live, with out it, you die"... now that's a stretch. I know we are talking about side airbags and front airbags increase survival rates and decrease injuries but people have been hurt (or worse) because of front air bags deploying and those without have walked without a scratch in similar accidents. The same could be said for side airbags.
That all being said, I think it's worth the upgrade.

Also, the "injured when they could have walked away" argument is bogus. There is no possible way to prove that. And the same CANNOT be said for side airbags, because they do not REPEAT do not directly contact you when they deploy. They fill the areas between the seat and the door, and prevent you from contacting the door. They aren't like front air bags where they pop into you. Another misconception that you seem to have is that the side airbags on the stang are side curtain airbags. They are not. They do not deploy to cover the window, and come out of the seat and deploy next to you to cover your body. Safer for body contact, but will not help with glass too much.
Next time you want to post an opinion, make it at least somewhat accurate.

Yes, they are in the seats. Placement on the door would be near impossible for the airbag to deploy and be beneficial.
I was told by the VW dealer when we bought one of our cars that they put them in the seat because the seat moves with you during a crash and it doesn't matter where the position of the seat is in relation to the door (as in my short legs require me to drive with the seat pushed forward, tall hubby puts it all the way back). It still doesn't answer whether they are in the door or on the seat question though.

If my father had side air bags in his car he would be alive today. A Ford Focus ran a red light and broad sided him in his crown vic. Broke every rib on his left side in two places. He died in the hospital a week later, the driver of the focus was out of the hospital the same day.
Your off base on the crash test results Google "Side air bag crash test results" http://www.detnews.com/2003/autosinsider/0...utos-195811.htm
My sister and mother drive suburu foresters just for their front and side crash test ratings. Last year it was one the few cars to score 5 stars for both front and side impact. The only cars to recieve the highest rating for side impact (5 stars) have side air bags. Everyone in our family now will not even consider buying a car without them. Usually they are part of the seat, not the door.
As Clint Eastwood said in Dirty Harry "Do you feel lucky today" because luck is all you got without a side airbag. I'd gladly pay the $300 cost to have my father back.

For the cost, I will take any extra protection for a few more bucks a month. Can't hurt, can only help. That is my OPINION.

Oh, and the reason I replied in the first place was to say "GJ at stealing my reply to these threads, rags."

Ok, I think the seat wins, but I still have some doubt, some say door some say seat...

, I opted not to get them as none of my previous/current cars have them now.
