Should I get the K&N Air Filter?
#2
I just got my K/N and it is definately worth it. There is no other brand that is better. You'll get a touch better gas mileage and a touch better hp. And if you maintain it you've got a lifetime filter. I don't know what it is but I rest easier knowing my car is breathing through a K/N.

Most local stores don't have the right part for the '05 mustang - you can find them on Ebay for around $35 I think. Advanced Auto Parts by me wanted $39 and they would have had to order it and charge me $5 shipping.

I got mine at Ninosport. I had one on my 96 GT and now on my 05. I read in MM&FF that by itself the HP gain is minimal, but I love it. Plus you won't ever have to buy another filter so it is worth it in my book.

Recommend you read all the threads on CAI's in the Performance section. A ton of information and some strong opinions on brands, tunes and dynos. A CAI is one of two remainding mods I want to do but still up in the air. From what I read, it would appear that you definitely will require a retune. IMO, if I am going to go with A CAI, I think a dyno is the way to go versus a stock calibration but I am sure there are alot of folks out there who would disagree.

Well hello ponygirl. If you buy the regular k&n air filter it most likely will not work with the cold air intake kit. The filters are different. the K&N is for the normal air box. I believe with any adjustments to intake, like cold air, etc, need a tune for them too actually gain the hp, and to make sure your car does not run too lean, it should be done on a dyno. Good luck. I am not going to do too much to mine yet, as it is still brand new. If anything I am interested in the cdc/fang shaker hood system coming out at end of this month.
