And although some say that the head unit / cross-overs do not send high frequency sounds to the rears... they are dead wrong. The factory speakers are a single cone and cannot reproduce the highs very well.
Concur, rear speakers are FULL range, cheap paper, need to replace, easy to replace. Just have a torx socket, not long screwdriver type, but the torx socket type. Rear window is tight, it'll make it much easier.

The Shaker system has an acoustical chamber molded into the plastic door panel. Has anybody seen a technical article about this audio system?

The only change I would make, unless you wanna get really picky, is changing out the factory door and rear speakers. For $150.00 to $300.00 worth pf speakers, the sound is sooooo much better than stock. Better imaging and much more efficient too!

I put some Infinity 6x8 coax in the doors and rear... only took about an hour. And although some say that the head unit / cross-overs do not send high frequency sounds to the rears... they are dead wrong. The factory speakers are a single cone and cannot reproduce the highs very well.

That's probably a good idea, I justed wanted to convey that it may not be necessary for many people as the stock system still sounds quite good to the non-audiophile ear. IMHO it's certainly good enough to live with while other toys are bought for the car

Thank you -I've located my own copy of that magazine now. You're right that's a short writeup on a great design that needed more.

I tried out both a 500 and 1000 side by side with my different CD's from KISS to Garth. For the $ the 500 is IMO the way to go. I plan to upgrade the speakers and leave it at that.
