Since the BOSS 302s were racing heritage cars, built for the Trans Am series. They definitely did not use the biggest engine ford had, but were very successful. Instead, Ford used smaller 302 engines with performance heads and suspension and handling upgrades.

Before you start to tell me all about the emissions (or lack thereof) I would tell you that it isn't that hard to put a stock program that runs the engine conservatively in the computer.
To all the naysayers...I wonder how many of you said there was no way the Shelby/Cobra would have the 4-valve S/C 5.4?
To Ford....is anyone listening?

A boss mustang sounds good... maybe with a 428/9 in it too...

As far as the California Special name goes, i think it would be a pretty weird name, especially for customers who don't live in California. could be that ford is just grabbing this name in case, i think companies often trademark a bunch of stuff that they haven't necessarily decided on using, just in case.
If they did have a California Special, it would make sense to me if it was geared towards California and the other states that have adopted the same tight environmental regulations (and just last week, Canada too, yeehaw!). That'd be a perfect name for a hybrid stang, quicker and more fuel efficient than the V6, offered primarily in these special states and Canada. And uhh... Europe? What would europeans think of a name like that?

I hope they have a SE for 2006...it would stink if the lineup has a big gap between the Cobra and GT.

Perhaps what would be more likely is a SE in 2005 (as a 2006MY). Then again, we probably would have heard of that by now if that were the case.
