According to the May 2005 Issue of Motortrend in the MT COnfidential on page 34 the SE mustangs are back on. "After the Shelby GT 500 will come a new Bullitt, a new Mach 1, a new Boss etc. ..."
Just in case any one was curious.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that. Team Mustang has said they don't want to just do the same things over again, so the Mach 1 was low on their list. Warner Brothers was a pain to deal with on the last Bullitt, and that relationship was strained. The Boss name may have to go through Team Shinoda; I know they have a few trademarks on it.

Instead of constantly looking to the past, what about establishing some new traditions? Sure, the Machs, Bosses and Bullitts are great fine names and cars, but been there, done that. What about freshening the Mustang franchise and legend a bit too so it isn't all living-in-the-past retro (a bit is fine, but it can easily get overdone and stale).
I certainly hope they do in fact do some substantial SEs (not just cheesy lick 'n stick stripe and spoiler jobs). Some nice cars with some real distinct hardware under the skin would be great. And they could be interesting.
How about a Boss like GT-R Mustang? A few GT500 trim pieces, a hotted up DOHC 4.6, 6spd, Recaros, big brakes and wheels? So Ford's stickin with a stick axle out back? OK, well, how about lightening it up with an AL diff housing, drive shaft and other components and trim down its porky unsprung weight. Look what GM's doing with their neolithic pushrod V8s through sound and thorough engineering.
Anyways, back on subject, hope and expect that they will do SE's of some sort in the future.

Not the "Boss" thing again.
'nuff said.

Both are live and Ford can use the Boss name. Are we on the same page?
Please end the speculation.

I don't think MT meant to be taken so literally when they named off all those SEs.
I'm still hoping one of those SEs will be a hybrid, as we all know.

More importantly though, from a marketing perspective the old names still have huge brand recognition and would be easier to sell. The Bullit SEs would never have sold as well if they weren't call the Bullit.
That being said, I am much more interested in the car itself. Put an all-aluminum, N/A 5.4 in with new body work and some suspension tweaks, price it under or at $30k, and I am a happy camper -- no matter what it is called.

My guess is that the next SE will be a Boss or GT350. Although, I would really like to see another Mach.
What I am looking(hoping) for is a 5.4 with 350-400hp. $30k range.
I really like the Mustang GT, but I have been down that road before with my 87 & 01. Right now the Shelby is #1 on my list, but I do not like the $39k+ price tag.
I hope we see or hear something about an SE at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. I would be thrilled if an SE would be released in mid 06 as an 07 model. The Ford Rep. told me the SE would be out in 07 or 08.

agreed on the (approx.) 30-32K price w/5.4 NA and over 350HP, w/6spd, and call it whatever they want.
If we can't get another Bullitt, can we at least get a nice dark GREEN or BLUE color option?
I'd love a Shelby, but for that money ($39K+), I can't justify it as a daily driver consideration (not w/way I put miles on a car - my '02 has 112K already)... :bang:

The next SE will be the BOSS. Instead of the boat anchor iron blocked 5.4 up front, I'm guessing that the motor will be the SC 4.6 "terminator" from the 03/04 Cobras.
Since the BOSS 302s were racing heritage cars, built for the Trans Am series. They definitely did not use the biggest engine ford had, but were very successful. Instead, Ford used smaller 302 engines with performance heads and suspension and handling upgrades.
I think the formula would still work. Ford won't put the SC 5.4 in it, b/c that would detract from the Shebly. Also, the sheer weight of the NA iron 5.4 would defeat the purpose, b/c it likely wouldn't offer a significant power gain over the SC 4.6 to offset the weight gain.
Likewise, an aluminum NA 5.4 would be too expensive to justify using in a car that would likely MSRP around (just a guess) $30K.
Instead, Ford has the SC 4.6, and we all know that thing was churning out at least 400hp/400ft-lbs. No development costs and proven performance.
Plus, it would fit the BOSS ideology.
I'm speculating of course, but it sounds pretty reasonable to me. Who knows.

although im pulling for a Mach1 SE i think that it would be refreshing to see a new se name emerge, although i think with the revcent trademarking of the california special id say its a safe bet that that will mostlikely be the next one.
IMO i would like to see something new like a black out scheme...super black pain, black rims, black louvers (side and rear), those awesome black out headlights from i beleive its MRT (its in the sema section from this webpage), black interior....something new and different would be cool
