MotorTrend from March says the Cobra will be replaced as the ultimate Mustang by a Shelby version with the 5.4 S/C engine from the Ford GT.

MT is full of zhit. I recall their "rumors" about the new "2004" meaning the 2005, and their renderings that looked like the 1962 prototype. What they have discovered now is what we talked about a year ago.

I called SVT after this came out. They said they are still working on the Cobra. He did qualify it with "at this point." I asked about the Shelby. He said "I cannot confirm nor deny anything about THAT car." The article says replace as the ultimate Mustang, not replace altogether. I think there will be 2 cars. A high priced Shelby and a close to the old Cobra priced Cobra. The Shelby will be a Cobra R so to speak.

What does this mean for IRS in the Mustang. From a marketing standpoint, it makes no sense to me that the "ultimate" Mustang would come with a live axle and not IRS. Plus why would Ford put in an engine that costs more than a fully decked out Mustang GT.
I mean, if the Shelby is going to be the ultimate Mustang (along with the "ultimate" pricetag) I would expect the IRS to be part of the package.

My guess is either MT is not getting the facts straight or there is good reason to eliminate IRS.

But why design the vehicle to accept both IRS and live axle if the IRS will never be used.

A couple of guys on the local site work for SVT. They said that Motor Trend isn't a reliable sourse and wonder who their source is because they have bad info
I trust them, over some mag
