Saleen Heritage mufflers

Just ordered up some Saleen Heritage mufflers. They are super cheap on ebay, so I took a risk and "won" them. $98.00 after shipping. For that price I thought why not give em a try. I've searched the net and couldn't really find out much about them. Originally used by SALEEN on S302 Parnelli Jones and Heritage versions. Never found any sound clips so after I install them I'll put up a sound clip.

Welp, I got them today and installed them.... Uhhh LOUD. I knew I was taking a gamble on them. So now I have some questions. They don't come with tips and the mufflers stop about 4 inches from the bumper, could that be causing some drone in the car? It is a bit much from 1500K to 2500K on the RPM's. Will they get a bit quieter over time? Or do mufflers get louder after they get broken in? And my final question, will adding "glass packs" or resonators hush it up a bit? Thanks. I'm gonna try and post a vid in a couple of minutes.

We're they new or used? We need a pic because my guess is that they are not stuffed with material that breaks down over time. If they are loud from the get go than the sound will remain constant.

My guess as they are rebadged Magnaflows. Saleen has no problem stamping their logo on parts they technically didn't manufacture.

They are new and I'm NOT saying they sound bad... actually I think they sound killer it's just a tad bit loud for me. CLICK on my car for the vid with how they sound. You can't really tell from the video it's really when I'm driving the sounds just fill up the cabin.

Oh ok. Those are standard on the Parnelli Jones, Dan Gurney heritage edition and some supercharged cars. Those are originally manufactured by Edelbrock exclusively for Saleen.

They are meant to rumble and with no vibration absorber, I imagine they do!

Good news. They will stay the same in sound over time. Almost every muffler out there drones somewhere in the power band. You got a good set that will take some getting used to. Most people will agree it sounds awesome. You just need to configure some tips now.

I tried a set as well when installing my PJ rear fascia and they lasted one quick test drive as they were too loud for me as well. So I just had the dual Dan Gurney tips welded on my GTAs.... Which IMO is the best sounding muffler for our cars.

Btw www.autoanything.com has a variety of stylish tips that would clamp on to your set up.

Really?? I rode in a PJ at a Saleen event, and I thought it sounded amazing, and not that loud at all.

I think I'm the one that brought Doogie's old mufflers. I cut them open and gutted them, then welded them back shut. They sound great and I have no drone at any speed. Inside is all metal deflectors, no fillers or glass. I love them but I only drive my Mustang on super nice days or at the track.

As we all know that the sound of your stang is totally subjective. I'm about the install a Thrush glass pack and see what happens. I really like the DEEP sound of the mufflers I just have to CUT THE DRONE!!!! I will keep you posted. And, thanks for the link GETPORTFOLIO.

Install some pypes m-80 or dynomax resonators. It'll cut your drone and reduce the sound (clear)
http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showt...hlight=Dynomax $90 new
Got some flows before, and they droned a little at 1500-2000rpms added Lt's and resonators, no more drone.

OK OK OK OK.... Let me just say that this is my first day on the job and I deserve to be flamed. BUT this post might help some other NON-thinker such as myself So this is how I fixed the DRONE. I added tips to the mufflers. YES thats all I had to do. No glass packs, no sound chambers, no double loop sound wave canceling anti-vibration special service hanger clamps. JUST TIPS. The mufflers came without tips and I didn't think much of it. Then I did think and thought, Wow all the deep sound waves are shooting right under the rear bumper. I didn't want to order tips and wait so I ran to NAPA and got the cheapest tips I could find and what do you know? That fixed the whole thing. Now I can order some nice quality tips from Summit and enjoy the beautiful sound of my 4.6. The Salleen mufflers have an awesome DEEP growl. I also like the "backfire" kinda sound I get when I let off the gas. I highly recommend them, and for a price of 98 bucks shipped to my door I say you can't beat it.

I was running those Saleen mufflers with the stock H-pipe and they were loud and had a nice rumble. I had no drone at all. I cut the tips off my stock mufflers and welded them on.

I Switched to a O/R Prochamber and they picked a little drone around 1800-2000 but nothing like a Flowmaster.

Resonators wont cure drone, at least none the ones I tried . I used a Vibrant resonator with my Flowmaster American Thunders and they just quietened the exhaust too much for my liking. The drone was still there.

I'm currently running headers, a catted X-pipe with mid-mounted SLP LM2's and using Boomtubes as my axleback, I have very little drone in the1800-2000rpm but not bad.

Drive55 i got a question, when you installed the mufflers did you do it yourself? My question is, did you cut off or grind down the little nub that lines up the stock muffler? I don't know if I'm explaining it right. The stock muffler has a notch cut out and the pipe has a "nub" that slides into the notch. I was thinking of grinding that nub off so I can slide the muffler pipe on a bit more.

Good to hear the tips cured the drone.

No grinding for me, I did have to bend the hangers a little to get the tips centered but other than that they were plug-n-play.'

Werd of warning though, do not use an X-pipe those Saleen's,, they will sound like crap.
