well its not the 197 but the SN 95 is the one that got me started in Mustang, have always liked the older mustangs and wanted one with a 5 or 6 on the tree, bought it and must say I absolutly love it, when its time to trade this one in I will be looking at the S197 series. But thats only IF I want to, I love my current Mustang....

Always liked the SN-95's as well.. My only complaint with the S197's is Ford didn't design them the same size as the SN-95, but other than that, the retro styling of the S197 is second to none IMHO

Same size? in what way? is it bigger or smaller then the SN95?

Hey there Jim ! The S197 is larger in size over the SN-95, as it's wider, taller and has a longer wheelbase..

Believe it or not the S197 is the second largest Mustang ever produced by Ford and is just barely under 2 inches shorter than the 71-73 Mustang which was the largest production Mustang in the car's entire 50 year history..

As much as I love the S197 Mustangs, I don't think I would've sold my 1966 though, as the original 1st generation Mustang will always remain a timeless classic..
I need to be clear on that statement. I sold my 1966 around that time I got married, it had no AC and was seating outside all the time after a full restoration. I sold it for top dollar (at the time) to put a down payment on a house. That is why I could barley afford a V6. If I had the money I would have gotten the GT.

Fast forward a few more years and I was ready to buy another Mustang. I went the dealer to buy a new 2013 GT Convertible but they were nearly 40k with the options I wanted. So I found this gem for half the price.

Yes indeed ! You have the smaller size edition which IMO Ford should had kept the same.. I mean don't get me wrong I love my S197 as it's still sporty looking along with it's classic retro styling but to me it's just a bit too wide which gives the appearance of looking porky/fat

However I do understand Ford's reason which is mostly due to our govt's crash safety requirements.. Even compacts and eco boxes have increased in size through the years over the crash safety requirements as a direct result as well !

Kona ! Just to let you know, I do have a first name lol. So you really don't have to keep referring to me as Sir

On a lighter note, now I understand even more why you much prefer the styling of our S197 Mustangs over the new 2015 models

I can certainly understand your reasons for selling your 66 Mustang as getting married along with buying a house/starting a family always comes first plus letting such a nice car sit outside after being fully restored would all had been for nothing and eventually would've been ruined by the elements..

Therefore you made the right choice that was best for you and in the end was also best for your 66 as well..

The important thing is.. You got top dollar for your 66 and was able to use that towards the down payment for your house and in the end were able to buy your 2010 GT Convertible and in the process saved yourself half the cost of a 2013 GT with the options you wanted.. So it was definitely a win-win situation and I'm glad everything turned out just right for you

Well as far as styling goes, its almost like the auto MFGs are taking out all the modding fun with the LEDs and this after market option and that after market option getting installed from the factory, thats why I like the older cars and while I Ironically said I was planing to never own anything newer then a 1995 model year, I will concede that the Mustang while newer is still simple to work on and not overly convoluted with computer crap to make it impossible to fix...

And what's really nice is.. Even the newer Mustangs are still mod friendly and remain fairly easy to modify and work on

That's pretty much how I felt when I first saw the S197 in 04 Richard..
Anyway, my 06 GT is also a keeper and has just 13,366 miles on her

We both loved the '05 when it first came out. In June 2013 we found a low 22K miles '08 GT with original tires still with half tread and a correct date code that confirmed it was adult driven .... and it had a 5 speed.
