S197 Ten Years Old
The s197 is 10 years old. Let's celebrate this awesome addition the the ford stable. This should start with a 2005 if possible and then let it rip. Anybody? Show them, talk about them. Let's see the best memories and qualities. All years welcome.

Funny, I just looked up that picture last night to show my girlfriend the reason I bought my car ASAP after seeing the concept at the 2003 Cleveland Auto Show.

pic of the first time I saw a S197... went to the auto show mostly to see the little GT(40)- no way could ever afford one, but as a kid it was always a 'dream car'... anyway, saw it, loved it- then spied the silver preproduction S197. stood there and listened to the nice redheaded girl talking about the new mustang, checked it out, listened again...3 hours at the show, the family was looking all around, I was hopelessly stuck in the ford booth... where was it built, where was engine built, where was tranny built(mexico! well everything else sounded good), what colors are going to be available(no bright blue??? Sonic was added after the debut)... anyhow they drug me out of the ford booth when they were ready to go home
love at first sight... then the battle began: 3 kids/4 seats logic of my wife vs my 'but I want it' thinking... in the end a the number of seats issue was worked out by adding seats by adding another mustang- but THIS was the one that started it for me:

When I first saw these pictures back in the day I had to have one. I sold my 1966 around that time and wanted another Mustang. The day the S197 hit the dealership I bought a 2005 V6 base (all I could afford). A 2010 GT Convertible is what I sport now. However, nothing will beat the anticipation of the 2005 Mustang release. It was a magical time in my car life!

Here's mine. Love this car. In my opinion it's a keeper. Classic style and in excellent condition. Not a daily driver. I remember back in Feb 05 placing the order. The dealer did not even want a deposit because if I didn't want it they would sell it for more than I got it for (about $2500 off sticker). I had to wait four months to get it they were so popular. It finally came in June 05. Back then it attracted a lot of attention because it was so different from the previous generation. I still get a lot of stares and admiration. Some dealers in 05 were selling them above sticker price. In my opinion the Mustang, no matter what generation is an American icon.

Mine was 10 years old on Mar 21. Absolutely the best car I've ever owned. Super reliable, awesome fun to drive, and just look at it... I literally still can't go anywhere without getting stares and compliments. It attracts attention in a good way, even at 10 years old. :-)
78,000 trouble-free miles.
Here's a picture of it from a couple weeks ago, after coming out of winter hibernation in the garage under a cover.

I'd just like to add by saying that although I happen to like the new 2015's.. I always wanted a Mustang that reminded me of the classic 1st generation 65-70 models I grew up admiring as a kid back in the mid 1960's - early 1970's..
And when I saw the 2005 being introduced for the first time back in 2004, I was so blown away how it's design re-captured the spirit of those 1st generation Mustangs in every way and I knew from that very moment the S197 was going to be the closest to those first generation 65-70 cars as it was ever going to get.. So needless to say, the S197 was the Mustang I had been waiting for that I always wanted and have been more than happy with ever since

When I first saw the 2005's, I wanted one really bad. I loved how it didn't have a name on it anywhere, but was obvious what it was. I couldn't afford it though having been left with a ton of debt by the ex wife. Fast forward to 2012 and my current wife and I had saved up and bought my '13 GT convertible. Best car I've ever owned!

Here is my 2011 S197. I took delivery of her in August 2010. This is my first Ford vehicle let alone my first mustang. My wife and I went to the local Ford dealership to see the 2011 because I saw the new commercial about the 305 HP V6. It took one look and I knew that pony was coming home with me. Instant love!
Back when I bought it new and now present.

As a teenager when the '67-model Mustang came out, I remember them distinctly. The first time I saw the '05-model, I remember thinking how well Ford had done in paying homage to the '67.
Though I like the '15, the early S197's still do it for me. I bought this '06 in December last year, and I've done several things to make it more personal (new wheels, new cloth top, chrome cam/valve covers, and several other appearance mods). I sure enjoy having a manual transmission again.

As much as I love the S197 Mustangs, I don't think I would've sold my 1966 though, as the original 1st generation Mustang will always remain a timeless classic..
