Passport 8500 X50.

The 9500i looks sweet, but rather expensive. I wish my 8500 x50 had voice alerts, but I've learned to recognize the difference between "BEEP" and "BEEP BEEP"

Passport Solo S2 Cordless.... I'm looking to get it hardwired but haven't found a location that is best.

Where on the windshield do you all put your radar detectors?

Excellent - thanks everyone

from my quick research I would love to go with a Valentine but I am stuck in a specific pricerange (if I have the money left over from my tax return that I hope to have)

I am leaning towards the Beltronics either 955 (JonCo knows that ) or 940... but if anyone wnats to throw in what they LOVe about their unit or what they wish it did, that would be even more helpful as this would be my first radar unit.

[by the way Jon - progress on the blower install?]

Voice alerts are a big plus because it helps identify the type of radar and sometimes the urgency.
The 8500 x50 can read multiple bands at the same time. I can see at least 2 different sources of K and Ka simultaneously shown by different bar graphs.

I've been running cobra radar detectors for years in my cars. i'm never buying them again. they were good on detection and got me out of a lot of close calls, but after 2-3 years the speaker blows on all of my cobra radar detectors.

when funds come back, I will be getting the Escort 9500i or the Beltronics STi radar detector.

The most important thing is learn how to use it, and know its limits.

Even the best detector, if you just mount it up, and wait for it to beep before you slow down, will get you a ticket every time.

Its important to know when it can help you, and when it will do you no good what so ever.
