Rust protection - Vaseline, Cosmoline, POR-15, and Eastwood

This sounds pretty odd but I learned about this trick from an older gearhead and applied it to my other Fords. Basically, spread gobs of vaseline on the steel surfaces that tend to rust. That includes powdercoated surfaces like the vacuum brake booster and A/C lines. The powdercoating rarely holds up over the years (speaking from experience). The engine and exhaust heat in the engine compartment will melt and spread the vaseline, sealing off moisture from those surfaces.

I'm thinking about using Eastwood's Heavy Duty Anti-Rust on the underbody. I was told it is similar to Cosmoline. POR-15 and Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator seem to be more like paints for rusted surfaces while the Anti-Rust "goop" looks llike it will be suitable for "fresh" metal.

What have other fellow Stang owners done to protect their cars from rust other than park them in a garage?

The stuff I`ve used is linseed oil. They use it on the trucks at work and stuff just powerwashes off. The oil stays on and prevents rust.
