If you change the size of the wheels say to 18 or 19 or 20 yes it does.

As long as the tire's OUTER DIAMETER does not change there is no problem. The bigger the wheel, the lower profile the tires need to be. Most tire sites have elaboate explanations to this. The lower the profile, the worse the ride, you need to balance the difference of how you want the car to look and handle and what you are willing to live with day to day.

Phatmatt04, when putting on custom wheels you can alter your speedometer readout, but only if you don't get the proper tire size to go along with your wheels. You easily can modify a car to have 18, 19, or 20 inch wheels by altering you tire size. Let's say you want to put 19x8 inch wheels on the new mustang, you would need a tire size of 245/45-19 in order for the speedometer to work right. With 20x8.5 inch wheels you would need 255/35-20 tires. So you can basically upgrade to anything as high as a 20 and it will work with your speedometer as long as you have the proper tire size. Hope this helped!

What he may be asking is, if I put different size rims/tires on the car, when I go to sell it and put the stock rims back on will it have more or less mileage? If thats not his question, I'm still curious! I might put 12"'s on and save my resale value

Here ya go man.
If you want to get a larger rim...put in the original tire/rim combo...
and compare to the closest match.
It will tell you HOW much the tire/rim will put you up or down.

Bookmark this baby...
Tire/Rim Calculator

For example:

17s standard are 235/55R17
if you don't want to mess up the speedo...get
18s @ 255/45R18
0.5% difference in size (closest match) but slower by 0.5%
And oh look..those are the size of the tires that the 18s will offered with in 06

if your going 19s...
255/40R19 0.5% difference
265/40R19 0.6% difference faster
275/40R19 1.8% difference
