If it's a brand new motor and you've already done a few burnouts w/ only 212 miles, then you are driving it hard, even if you aren't redlining every shift. Give the motor a chance to break in, and your foot to lighten up, then your gas mileage will improve.

Is that mostly around town driving? I'm lucky to average 14 MPG with 80% in town driving and the other 20% @ 100+ mph on the autobahn

I think you all need to explain the break in to him. Just telling him to do it isn't going to help. As for the MPG, yep that looks about right. The faster you go the more gas it sucks. If you keep the RPM under 2k all the time then you get the sticker MPG. If you drive it like a normal person it goes down. Although on the highway I do pretty good if Im cruising around 70ish.

just do a few more burnouts and peg the speedo and your mpg should increase.

LOL!!!

Actually, I'm getting 20.6 mpg according to the computer in mostly city type driving (7 miles to work, 4 stopsigns, 6 stoplights), and that isn't babying it. Been as high as 27.8 on a highway trip and the computer seems to be pretty accurate to me. Didn't do that well until after about 1500 - 2000 miles though.

I've bit my tongue for weeks, but I am really starting to fear for the future. While I am looking foward to a happy retirement - I am getting a hint who's going to be running the country.

I see a new pony in need of a Ford crate engine soon.

I only drive mine hard - no burnouts, but aggressive acceleration all the time [5 spd.] My milage is just under 3,000.

Most of my driving is around town in a suburban setting which includes 55 mph thoroughfares.

Gas milage is consistently 14 to 15 mph.

Have fun paying for a new set of tires, and if you dont let the motor break in, have fun paying for the new motor.

Give the kid a break. Sure we are all jealous that a punkass 16 year old is getting his own GT (with sat-nav), but lets keep the criticism constructive.

Read the owners manual on break-in period for the car. I believe page 5. Just a hint excesive load (burn-out) on the engine before 1000 miles is not good. Your MPG will go up after intial break-in and first oil change. At this point dont's be concerned with the number's.

You confuse jealiousy with concern for him and every other person on the road in his area. Not to mention the insurance rate increase all of us pay when someone his age wrecks. Yes not just his age wreck but the statistics are what they are. I dont live in his state or area so I guess I am safe anyway.

Jealous.. no... concerned... yes. Many of us wrecked our first cars and, with age, have come to understand just how stupid we were when we first got our license to drive. I recently moved from the Chicago area and have many friends that drive into Michigan. I also have family members that do business in the Detroit area. I would hate to have one of them run into a 16 year old losing control of his car because it is too much for his driving experience to handle. His opening post here explains that he has a HIGH level of maturity with the car and his other post about his insurance premium raises concerns to whether he is actually covered.

I don't think I've ever owned a car with such a difference between freeway cruising and 'on-the-street' () playing.

On my commute to work (50 miles, 70 mph) I can easily get 25+ mpg. But I doubt if I do much better that 14-18 on surface streets/stop and go.

All the other B.S. aside, don't worry about the gas milage, it will go up on it's own no matter what you do.

When I first got mine, I only got about 11 mpg, once it had about 5k on it, I got 20 mpg combined city and highway.

I'm averaging 18.5MPG across the board. I haven't reset the computer in 25k miles.
