First off, you'll have to forgive me. This is the first new car I've ever owned. It's the second mustang, but my first is from 1966, and needless to say, it is lacking this feature :scratch:

but you guys really didn't talk about exactly where the filter is located and how to change it. The most I got was that it's in the cowl under the hood. I haven't done any digging around yet, and figured before I do (since I'm sitting at work with nothing to do) I'd post it up here to see what you guys know.

I've got one coming in soon and I'm planning on changing it out. No rush for the info. Just looking for someone who knows where it's at (pics would be nice if ya got em).

 

from past experiance, it is usally under the cowl cover on the passenger side, i will take a look and let you know.....

 

why do you want to replace it? Just curious

 

The owner's manual says it's on the passenger side under the cowl cover. Page 31.

 

Wierd... I couldn't find that anywhere in mine! I guess I didn't look hard enough... no wait... I was driving and had the wife look for me. That explains.



as for why I want to replace it - I've rolled over 20k on the car already. I'm well past the 15k scheduled replacement. She's long overdue, and the air quality in the car is starting to suffer a bit. Needs a fresh filter. B)

Quality? Is there a smell or do you see dust?

 

Just has a stale odor to it. I really just noticed it yesterday, and I have to take the car in for a host of TSB's. my parts just came in. The parts guy said he'd put a filter on order for me and that I could pick it up when I go in for the maintenance. I'm going to check out the filter location today (will take pics if anyone is interrested).

The car is going into the shop in 5 days. I'll get my filter done probably at the end of the week, or as soon as they install and repair the 5 million things I have them set to fix for me.

I'll keep you guys posted on installation and improvement of air quality/flow.

Didn't have kids in the car, did ya? It's amazing what smells come out of a car when you don't know what was dropped into the defroster vents

 

Three previous Lincolns that I have owned with cabin filters all ended up having a stale musty smell. For that reason I don't care for them. Although that will not be a problem with the GT as it will never see rain, or it would be very rare.

 

you get that smell from the remaining air not blowing out when u turn your car off when the a/c is on. the moisture builds up in the evaporator and casues an odor. There is a possibility the mustang can be hooked to the diagnostic machine and the after blower feature can be activated. new volvos have this so i would venture to say that the mustang might too..i was suprised to even find out the new mustang has auto up and down windows. but im not even sure just how advanced the new mustang is as far as any sort of feature for the a/c. if you want there is alos a spray you can get that they use to clean out ice machines. you spray into the blower motor and it should eliminate the odor.

 

That and I've always found that cooling the outside air every once in awhile will cut down on that "smell" as well.

I always start my A/C by cooling the outside air first, once it's down to a reasonable temp then I turn on MAX/AC or RECIRC.

If you think about it, if you run in MAX/AC with RECIRC on all the time, you're never refreshing the air in the cabin.

 

ok i know this is just bringing up dead threads but does anyone have any updated pics or a full review on how to change the cabin filter, i think i need to change mine sooner then recommended

Changed mine after 12 months 12k and it was rather dirty.

In addition to that write up, I would suggest turning the wipers on and shutting the car off with them in the up position.
The cowl will rub on the wiper arm and possible scrape up the end of the cowl a little bit.
