Both of my outside door handles get stuck when you pull them to open the doors. The dealer is going to order new ones, but said they do not come painted and they will have to get them painted. Is this correct??

ya guess they only have them unpainted now? he said that he had done this on a car previously, and they had come painted. does anyone know for sure? i would much rather have them come painted from ford.

 

Most Ford dealers don't realize they come painted. It's a Mazda part and they do things differently. Either that or the dealer just wants to charge for doing work they didn't really do.
If you check out all the threads on the door handle sticking, you'll see every handle came painted. I think I saw where one guy said the dealer told him it came in unpainted, but he never actually saw it before they installed it so he just had to take the dealer's word for it. Take that for what it's worth.

 

i actually emailed clevparts, and he said they used to come painted, and they have changed the part number, and now they do not come painted. the dealer is going to have them painted for me, and i am not paying for anything since its warranty.

All I can say is I'm sure they'd be really difficult to paint and wet sand/buff.

 

I just had mine installed on Fri,oct 20th. It came painted..so they have just changed it since then?? I got real lucky then Lets hope the driver side doesn't do it or there's gonna be trouble!!

 

Well Chuck, since you got your doorhandle replaced 11 days ago, and it came painted, then I would take it at that all......... "They Come Painted". 'Nuff said....

 

no they do NOT come painted. check the part numbers. They used to come painted but ford stopped this. It is cheaper to stock unpainted ones and have the dealer send it out to get painted then to stock all different colors pre painted. Your dealer sent it out to get painted for you, as will any other dealer.

 

Depends on the Color! Some are Still available in Color and Some are Not. Black has Gone to Paint to match. That is the ones I checked. I think I may ck and See if redfire is available and have some Spares Handy for My GT/CS. I would rather Have Factory painted. They are Cheap enough BTW.

FWIW I prefer unpainted door handles. Nicks and scratches on the paint will reveal the black plastic underneath.

 

That would make sense because black fades the fastest. More than likely that's the reason they stopped offering some of the handles prepainted. The '05's are starting to get old and fade so the colors won't match.

 

My replacement came in unpainted; the dealer sent it out when they received it and called when it was ready. Perfect match, no big deal.

 

That's correct. My 05 came with a defective bumper and the dealership had to paint the new one. They did a good job though.

 

 

What material are the un-painted door handles made of? Ford usually paints their paint-to-match parts with a black colored paint.
