Hi everyone, I thought I would post a quick update.

I did file a lemon law claim with the BBB and spoke with Ford after they received the claim. They called the dealership while they were on the phone with me, and the dealer said they had done all they could do...was not a service issue...blah, blah, blah. Ford told me to basically take a hike.

As temperatures grew colder into the fall, the GT smoked more and more. With my husband's health declining and winter coming on, I just couldn't chance not having a reliable car. He and I were so busy fighting for his life that the GT no longer meant anything to me. I traded it off for a GMC Terrain on November 6th, took about a $10,000 hit on trade in, and just called it a lesson learned.

Somewhere around January 2010, the spunk and fight...and anger all came back to me and I decided I would not let it rest. I contacted an attorney and we decided to sue based on breach of contract instead of the lemon law.

On February 3rd, my husband passed away. Tomorrow would have been our 12th wedding anniversay. In his memory, I went out and bought a 1966 Mustang Coupe, which I pick up this afternoon. His "bucket list" will live on vicariously through me, and later our grandchildren. As fate would have it, my attorney contacted me today and said Ford wants to settle. Nothing is finalized yet, and I can't disclose anything until it is, but I can only say that my husband would have been proud that I stood up for what is right.

I'll post more, hopefully in the next few weeks, and let you know how it turned out.

To anyone that has a GT between 2005-2010, please don't accept Ford's excuse for blue smoke -- it is NOT normal and you should FIGHT them until the end. It may not be on the level of the Toyota sticking gas pedals, but this coverup on Ford's part is not acceptable, and only after enough people with problems stand up for themselves, will it ever be made public and fixed...or at least made right!

Sad story, sorry for your loss.

Did you by chance ever check your intake to see if oil was puddling in the bottom?

Prayers to you and your family, Kim and condolences on your loss. Hope this unfortunate tale becomes a forgotten memory for you and the happier memories kept refreshed with the '66 Coupe.

My condolences on your loss, but my congrats on your apparent sucess on getting whats right from Ford and the dealer as well as the '66.

Its too bad you had to go through all this just to be treated fairly. I have NO tollerance for this kinda crap and 'companies' treating people like this.

No, sorry I didn't. I wouldn't have known how and even though I expressed this concern with the dealership, they looked at me like I was an idiot.

Well the same happened to me, although i cant say I noticed it at stock. After some mods i was burning 1 1/2 qts in 600 miles.

After exhausting all options it ended up being from mass suction. Intake manifold was sucking oil from crankcase into manifold. Smoked bad. The fix was a pcv delete. Now its perfect.

very sorry for your loss also. and too bad the dealer didnt fix the car.

its well after the fact now, but as both sides were equally smoking(even with a crossover, most would be in one bank if a bad valveseal, ring, scratched bore, whatever...) I wonder if it was something stupid as a bad pcv valve, or missing shield under the cam cover. woulda been easy to pull the throttle body and look for oil high in the plenum.

Most (if not all) of that was Greek to me, but this is exactly what made me the most upset about the whole experience. NOT ONCE did they EVER do anything at all to look into the problem. They pulled up the service code on the first visit (at 800 miles on the odometer), even after witnessing the smoke themselves, and ALWAYS stuck by their claim that it was normal.

Oh could I go on about dealer service issues...both GM and Ford.
I hate having anyone work on my cars- If I break it, I'll fix it, but if they break it and I still have to fix it...loose control arm on a camaro I bought new- had a clunk new, went back 3x, couldnt find it, 20 years later I'm putting the car up on stands and hear the old clunk I'd gotten so used to when driving- lower control arm bolt was NEVER tightened from the factory, by 60,000 miles had wore a 'slot' in the chassis. our windstar went in for a recall, while theyre at it, had them toss new front pads on it, inspect rears see if it needed shoes...200 extra for a pair of pads/clean adjust only the rears - first and only time in my life anyone ever put brakes on my car. 2 days later leaving on trip to waterpark with my 3 sons/2 nephews/wife- a van full...on the highway 1/2 hour, a guy cuts me off I hit the brakes and the pedal hits the floor. pump the brakes/pull the ebrake darn near spin off the road, AND nearly hit the guy who cut in...I'm livid...pull off to the side, cussing dealer the whole time- go to check if brakefluids low- pop the cap and its like opening a shook up rootbeer- brakefluid blows all over??? WTF, then notice the smoke coming from the rear- passenger rear brake that was JUST serviced is glowing redhot, tire/hubcap smoking...kids/baby had water, Im dumping it over the wheel- did you know plastic can boil water without melting? I didnt...had enough tools to pull the drum off- adjuster tight as hell, take it off wheelcylinder is stuck solid- that happens...BUT i JUST PAID 200 TO HAVE THEM SERVICED/CLEANED/INSPECTED and they were caked with crud except for around the adjustter plug...4th of july weekend , on a saturday back it off, wipe the brakefluid off the paint- still had a little in it(musta gotten hot enough to boil the wheelcylinder/pressurizing the reservoir) heat popped the grease seal off the hub, if I hadnt been cutoff we surely woulda lost the wheel in a few more miles, so thank God for putting that guy in my path...backed off adjuster, limped to nearest dealer, service booked- they can get it monday, offer me a escort loaner- Umm, I got 3 carseats + 4 other people in the van...soo I BUY a new wheel cylinder/hub/drum/linings, limp back home on 35 mph roads stopping to check heat every few minutes, spend a hour in the driveway fixing on my dime, on my vacation whatt I just paid 200 bucks to prevent. I gave the servicing dealer a expletive filled earful as I showed them the scorched parts the next week- and got nothing but excuses...well the dirt was because the wheel cylinder stuck/can assure you they cleaned and inspected and everything was fine/you purchased the parts yourself- we cant repay as thats not how it works even if we made a mistake/etc... showed him how both sets of rear linings were caked with brakedust/neither were cleaned at all, pics of both sides as I changed linings...no response, they wont accept any responsibility. that was 10 years ago, havent had a dealer service anything since...dreading the thought of a couple minor recalls that need done on the windstar and the mustang(cruise switch fuse and airbag reprogram) but have found a prettty decent dealer service department local too...I'll still be wattching

Kim,

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family .. I'm so very sorry.

While it's most certainly trivial at this point, I am glad that you were able to recoup some of your loss on the Mustang with a lawsuit. I feel more than anything, your servicing dealers let you down more than anyone.

I hope you have years of enjoyment with the `66 in your husbands memory.
God Bless
