Redline Hood struts
#23
Thanks for the help guys. Here is my latest mod. Please excuse the dirty engine bay. It's a driver.
This might have taken 1/2 hour after gathering all the tools. I went slowly and was extra carful with the driling.
One suggestion: Let the drill do the work. Don't apply a lot of pressure, just let the drill bit work it's way though (especially when drilling the hood).

Hey Mark,
The silver finish looks great with your Satin Silver Mustang! I went with black (black exterior on mine).
I will also be removing the prop-rod. No need for it unless the pistons should ever go flat!
I'm jelous of your auto-dimming mirror. Did Ford install it for you?

I have never worked with rivets before. Does the kit come with something to attach them with, or do I need to buy something else?

Well I finally installed my hood struts.
Let me just say, there's a reason I don't do anything mechanical for a living. That SUCKED! I will never do that on another car.
I'm glad it was easy for the rest of you guys, I hated it.
Oh well. They're on now. They're not absolutely perfect, but I'm probably the only one that will notice.
One thing I didn't realize I'd have to do was drill an extra hole to re-route the washer hose.
If I had it to do all over again, I'd probably get the MRT bolt-on struts.

I went with the ProLift set. Took 10 min and work great. No rivits, just existing bolts.
I did compress the struts a few times, prior to install and put some German torque on the hinge bolts, "Gut-N-tite".
Works great, no "stress" feelings when closing the hood.
The struts actually pick up the hood just prior to 50% open.
Definetly one of the better and easier mods I've done.
Highly recommend.
Tom
PS - Now I just need to paint the hinges . . . should I go body color? or black?

I had Redline powdercoat the hinges on the set I got from them black. It looks very good that way (most folks assume it's factory). Needless to say, I'd vote "black" on your setup.

Now I'm "undecided" again

Didn't see your request 'til just now. There's one hinge pic in the first post in this topic. If you need more, please feel free to PM me, and I'll gladly snap a few pics for you.

Thanks, I had forgotten all about this thread. I'll probably wait and paint them this winter when I have more time.
I've been busy working on "MODS" for my new project (the F-150).
