Rear Main Seal

Hey Just brought my saleen sc to the dealer for the second time with an oil leak. The first time they said it was the oil pan gasket. Now I noticed it still leaking. So the dealer thinks it may be the rear main seal. Anyone have htis problem yet

I had a leaky rear main in my 97 T-Bird with the 4.6. I did the repair myself but it requires removing the motor or dropping the trans, the latter being the easiest way to get it done. Mine had a two piece main - the actual seal that went around the crankshaft, and then another piece that pressed into that called the slinger. All in all, a ton of labor for a $15 part.

I know of a couple of SCed cars ( both Saleen actually ) that have rear mains that "weep" after beating on the cars. It is because of pressurization of the crankcase. They both installed filters in place of the oil filler cap and the problem disappeared.
