Did anyone put anything between the license plate and the paint?
Thanks, Michael

Yes, I put a adhesive foam rubber weatherstipping all around the plate back side before mounting (3/8" thick). It provides a cushion for the plate to sit on.

You need to do this to protect the paint from damage caused by the modern poor quality licence plates. Many of then have sharp edges or are so poorly stamped they twist up and dig into the paint.
