Ran Over Something and Something Is Hanging Now

Last night on the interstate I was following a 18-wheeler when something came out from under his truck and I was following too close to dodge it. It scratched the underside of my rocker panel pretty well, but that is all the asthetic damage I can see. However I started hearing a clicking noise. I pulled off and I was dragging some kind of bracket that was attached to a cable. Seems it broke loose when I hit whatever it was I hit. Anyone have any ideas what this cable is? It is right behind the passenger seat, in front of the back tire.

Sounds like the emergency brake cable.

That's what a buddy of mine said. I'm going to run to Autozone at lunch and see if they will know for sure. Thanks for the reply.

you can verify that buy watching the cable while someone pulls on the brake handle.... if it moves, its your parking brake cable.

Not just any Autozone employee. I guess I should have mentioned I know the manager at this particular store and he's always been plenty knowledgeable.

He said the same thing that other did. He thinks it the emergency brake. I also have a nice dent in my frame now. I guess I'm going to suck it up and take it to the dealership that way if anything else is damaged under there they should be able to notice it.

It's your parking brake cable. There are no other cables running under the car!
