Radar Detector Advice

This is not a “which is the best” thread. I have a very particular situation with my stang. My windows are tinted with V-kool 70 (www.v-kool.com) which boasts the absolute highest levels of solar rejection vs any other tint. It achieves this amazing result by using 7 different metals in the film (gold, silver, titanium, platinum,…) Those of you who remember some high school physics will realize that this turns my car into a Faraday cage where no radio waves can enter or escape. My cell phone losses half its bars once in the car, and my sat nav will take over 6 mins to lock onto satellites. All of this is fine with me. At least my car is not baking on the inside. However, with a radar detector, it will diminish the range so much rendering it useless.
I need to find a radar detector that fits outside the car cabin (front grill would be perfect). Or a radar detector that comes with an external antenna. Any ideas? I’ve searched the usual suspects :Escort, Beltronics, Valentine1 but none of them seem to have what I need.
PS. I'm only really interested in radar detection, and don't need laser detection since its not used around here.

Yah that stuff is beyond great. I recommend it for everyone. However it is the most expensive of all tints because all the precious metals in it.

I don't know a whole lot about radar detectors, never owned one myself. But a friend of mine used to rip his apart and wire the unit into the bumper, he did it on a couple of diffrent units and cars he owned. Only had the face of the unit and the little speaker fabbed into his dash. Granted this was like ten years ago, so this may not be possible with new radar detectors but just an idea. I thought it was pretty cool, very stealthy.

Beltronics makes a couple of very good remote detectors (http://www.beltronics.com/remotes.html)

Remember, with a remote detector, you loose a bit of range becase the antennas are mounted in your grille or front bumper. Since this is much lower to the ground, you don't get the range you would with a normal detector mounted high in your windshield.

How much of a range reduction are you talking about? I'm trying to think of a way to mount the antenna on the top of my car. I have a vert, so it might be possible with a bit of creativity. Another idea might be to replace the radio antenna with a radar receiver (I don't even know if this is plausible).

I'm loving the Beltronics RX75. I will search for better prices on Ebay.
