About to rip of my valve covers......

Any tips or advice from you guys who have already taken them off?

They are going to the powdercoater first thing tomorrow and wasn't sure if I should look out for some things during the removal. any PITA hiding bolts? special tools? preping the cover for powdercoating? reusing the stock gaskets or buying new ones?

Took mine off to paint. It was easier to remove the Battery and the box to get at all the bolts. Several different sizes of extension and a universal was a great help. Disconnect all the wire conections and pull them back. The bolts will stay in their holes held by a rubber gasket so you won't lose any of them. I did reuse my gasket as it only had 2,000 miles on it. Told about 1 hour to get them both off taking my time. Sanded them with 1000 grit and painted them with several coats of paint. Reinstalled them the next day. About 3 hours total time involved.

It's not too hard of a job. Putting them back on is harder, cause you have to be extra careful to not scratch the paint. It's easier with two people so someone can hold the wires from the injectors and the coils back. The gaskets can be reused if they're in good condition. Put a small dab of sealant at the front of the valve covers where it was from the factory. Make sure to tighten the bolts from the middle to the ends alternating between the top and bottom bolts.

I was under the impression that Magnesium is a very difficult material to powdercoat due to the heat involved. The magnesium will become brittle, and obviously break after the baking process. Anybody else heard of this? I think paint, or aftermarket steel replacements are best.

well I got the passenger side off, it was pretty easy. I did take the battery and batter box out to get the 3 back bolts, once I undid the last bolt, the cover slid right off. my problem is since I have the whipple blower, I have more obstructed wires in my way of getting the cover out. I'll have to get my father to assist me with a second pair of hands.
