Purchasing Extended Warranty
Purchasing Extended Warranty
Has anyone purchased an extended warranty during the factory 3yr/36000mile timeframe? My 2005 GT has 5,400 miles on it and would hate to not have a warranty on the car with less than 10-15k miles when the factory warranty expires in 2008.
If so, did you purchase the warranty through Ford or another company (who?) and will Ford honor the warranty?
Thanks - scout

I got a 7 year/150,000 warranty and service agreement for around $2300. Includes free oil/filter changes, 50% off major services, and if I get a flat, they replace all 4 tires. If I have to drive on it and bend the rim, all 4 rims get replaced. Warranty includes everything but wear and tear items like brake pads. They told me a clutch was covered, but I'm weary about that. Bought it through the dealer, but good at all Ford locations.
I have purchased them in the past for vehicles AFTER I bought them because they are ALWAYS cheaper then purchasing them through the dealer and especially because you pay finance charges when you purchase them with your vehicle.
As you may know you can purchase a Ford extended warranty at ANY time during the originally warranty of 3 years / 36,000 miles (may be longer time and more miles for the 07’s with the new warranty).
In any regards a Ford extended warranty regardless where purchased IS a Ford warranty and ALL dealers have to honor it.
Here is a few sites to check out below that are Ford extended warranties. The first one is a bit cheaper then the second site and will let you make 12 payments on it. 10% down and the remainder divided up for the other 11 months NO INTEREST…
I personally would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do NOT purchase any other type of warranty other then a Ford extended warranty because you very well could run into some major problems if you needed to use them. Sometimes with other warranties you have to pay up front and then get reimbursed etc. The cheaper the warranty plan is the more problems you will likely have with it other then a warranty from Ford.

I could be wrong if this warranty is from your dealer but there is no Ford warranty with the coverages you stated above and if they are not actually in writing you will be in for a big surprise if you really need to use it for what you stated above, just a heads up...
Also as far as new tires, rims and clutches NOT any other dealer will cover you there. Maybe your own dealer will since this sounds like a plan from just YOUR dealer but do not expect any other dealer to give you all new tires if you get a flat and don't expect a new tire for the one that went flat unless they can not patch it...
Try this website:
http://www.checkbook.org/auto/ExtendedService.cfm
The Maryland dealership will sell a Ford warranty for $25 over dealer cost. Before I ordered my 07 GT, I called them about a warranty for another Ford vehicle. The Ford website had the price at $700. The Maryland dealership quoted me $480 (their cost of $455 plus the $25). The price will vary depending on the vehicle and how much warranty you want so the $480 may not apply to what you are buying, but the 25-30% savings is probably still right. Oh, and since it is the Ford warranty, it works at all of their dealerships.
Or, if you have a good relationship with your dealer and want to buy the warranty from them out of loyalty, you could at least use this as a reference when you negotiate the price of your extended plan.

The clutch will not get replaced unless you have that in writing or a major failure, if you burn it up you will end up paying for it.
