Hey guys, had a funny thing happen to me on new years eve and finally got a chance to post about it. So I'm driving when a cop pulls behind me and follows for a bit, then desides to get in to the far right lane as I get into the left turn lane, all of a sudden he pulls behind me. At this point I'm double checkin everything I've done..okay im good no reason to stop me. We both turn and he does that get on the side of you thing they do then get behind me again and on come the cherries. darn it, what did I do? So I pull over and he walks up, so Im kinda expecting him to ask if I've been drinking or something, but no instead the question I get is "Is this the oh five?" I got pulled over just so he could check out my car! So I talked with him a bit about it then went on my way to begin the evenings festivites. It was cool and all but I wish there was a better way to talk to me about my ride then by pulling me over lol.

What an abuse of power!

Couldn't he just follow you until you hit a light, then ask you about the car? B)

At least that was a "social stop" and it turned out to be a pleasant one. I get stopped an 3 - 4 times a year just to be hassled. I've been given 2 warnings in the last four years but no tickets.

Good thing you didn't mouth off and got a ticket for a suddenly "broken" taillight.

Although not for this site, one of the funniest Chris Rock bits I have seen was his Public Service Announcement on How to Avoid Getting Beaten by the Police

An abuse of power is an understatement. I my self have had several bad experiences with cops on power trips. Not all cop have this problem but they are out there. I would of told him next time you want to look at a car go to your dealership like the rest of us, PIG.......LOL

Not to hijack this thread, but...

One of the funniest things he has ever done IMO. I have a mpeg or a wmv of that laying around here somewheres.

I got pulled over 3 days after I bought my car........after following me for 6 blocks he turns on the overheads, and then walks up to the car to tell me he pulled me over for no front plate. Duhhhhh....I didn't have any plates yet, and surely from following me for 6 blocks he should have realized this. I wouldn't have minded your situation at all of getting pulled over to look at the car.....but making up a phony excuse because of wanting to see the car kinda irked me a bit........

For your trouble, you should have asked for a police-escorted acceration and top speed run... assuming that his poor old Interceptor could have kept up.

I was pulled over several times in my 67 Mustang. The one time the cop walks up and said I m pulling you over because your headlight is out. I asked him if it was out or was it dim, because I knew I was having problems with it, he replies I DON'T KNOW. Then he said well I am pulling you over for no seat belts, 67 Mustang had lap belts I was wearing it. Goes to his car and comes back and said I am going to let you go this time, I wanted to say because you had no reason to pull me over in the first place other than to look at my car. So I guess being honest in the first place would be a lot better than making up excuses.

The night I brought my car home that actually happened to me! I had little over an hour's drive home and I stopped at a Dairy Queen about halfway to get a drink. Since I wanted to look at the car, again, I went inside and there were two cops in there. They stuck around and checked out the entire car and asked tons of questions. After almost an hour the conversation tapered off and they were just standing there staring at the car. Finally one of them said "you know we're waiting to hear it" so I crank'er up. After more bs'ing I apologized and told them I really needed to get back home b/c it was going on 3+ hours since I called home saying I was leaving the dealership and I knew the fiance was probably getting worried, if 22 missed calls are any indication. As I was opening the door to get in one of them asked if I would give it all she had when I got back on the highway. I laughed right in his face and he said aw no, go ahead I give you permission. I still declined because like I told him he may not do anything, but the next one right down the road should would. FYI, Wilmer/Hutchins, TX is no place to speed through even though they're not as bad as they once were.

HE HE HE, I would love for a cop to pull me over in a 67 here in TN & use the seatbelt thing as an excuse. I would pull out the drivers ed manual & point out that any vehicle built before 1969 are not required to have seatbelts & therefore I can't wear them if their not installed on my car.

I have been pulled over 3 times in 4 years with only 1 giving me a ticket. The other 2 were full of snot. Both of those times were at noght & it was wet & had been raining & was foggy. And both times I believe that they only wanted to see who was driving. In fact one pulled me over for doing, he said 67 in a curve that I don't even do 67 in during the day & in the sunshine, much less at night when the roads are wet, that would be sucide.

And the 3rd time I was speeding but had never driven through that paticular town before & had only just seen a speed limit sign & was slowing down when he tagged me & pulled me over & instead of giving a warning he wrote me a ticket, the jack rabbit. Either way that ticket was taken care of.....so......

IMO. Most times that I have heard of people being pulled over has been basically cops abuseing their power. Or else they have ligit reasons for pulling you over & then harass you afterwords like they do my brother. My cusin was pulled over & was told his license was suspended for a ticket that he thought had been dropped & he was told to get out of the truck & the cop stood there & watched him unbuckel his seat belt & then turned right around & wrote him a ticket for not wearing seatbelt. :notnice: Yet my ex-step-father had 8 DUI's & they only night he ever spent in jail because of it was when my mother refused to come bail him out. And he NEVER lost his license.

So, in my experience the law protects the guilty & purscutes, for the most part, the innocent. Don't get me wrong, I do think that most people don't respect their local law enforcement like they should but I also think that respect should that go both ways. They in turn should actually respect us too, and not let their power go to their heads.

Anyway. Sorry for the long rant. It's just things like that that really tick me off & I have to say my 2 cents. But I am done now. Cheersmates
