It seems that the auto runs about the same times as the manual. I'm not understanding why they put different gears in the man compared to the auto? The first thing that popped in my mind was that the gears in the man would help you get up and go faster off the line compared to the auto but I’m not sure. Can someone help me with this? Thanks Kevin

first off, auto weigh more and use more HP to turn... All in all if two exact cars go to the track and get the same times and one is a an auto and one stick, then the guy in the stick cant drive.... less weight and less drivetrain power loss with a manuel
Oh and why the gear difference.... I am sure for gas milage purposes

You might want to check this out. The auto has an advantage up through 3rd gear.

just cause the gears are closer and it will help the auto accelorate better you cannot change the fact that auto use up more drivetrain power and will actually lower the rwhp commpaired to a stick. + you are adding 50lbs with an auto

I would love to see some actual dyno numbers of RWHP of pure stock Auto and Manual equipped GT's, the pulls taken on the same day and dyno. I bet we will all be surprised!

Yes, everyone knows the auto has more loss than the manual. But the physical force that causes a vehicle to accelerate is rwtq. If you run the numbers, the auto equipped car's instantaneous rwtq exceeds the manual approximately 2/3 of the time from 0 to 80 mph. Only time will tell if that advantage is enough to make up for the auto's slight weight penalty.
Your in-depth analysis of the results of auto vs. manual is interesting. Be sure and let us know the results of your first encounter with an automatic.
