Problems closing convertible top

just got my GT/CS vert this week, when I go to close the top it only comes down to about 2" from the top of the windsheild. I then have to hang on it to get it down far enough to latch it ( reach outside the window and lift myself up). Once I get one down the other one is easier.
Anybody else with this problem? It has a vinyl top. this is about the only problem i've had with the car.

Just started

I have had my 05 for a year now and it just started to get hard to close. The passenger side is hard to latch and it grinds a little, metal on metal. I'm getting ready to put her away for the winter so I will take her in sometime next month. I have only driven it one time with the top up and I just broke 3,000 miles. Yours should not be that hard already.

On my '00GT vert this was normal....the top would get within 1" or so of the windshield header then you just pulled it (from the middle) down and engaged the latches....was fine. I did notice as the top aged it would set right down on the header - but that was because the top material had stretched.

That was normal on my 05 with vinyl top as well. My 07 closes as easy as you please, and the latches work MUCH smoother as well. It has a cloth top, not sure if this is the reason it works so much better.

my 06 vert stops at about 1", it allows me to open the latch and i press the button again to close it all the way, then lock the latch. try pressing it a second time after the first initial stop.

yes, it just seams like it needs to drop another inch or so and it would be fine.

Have tried that too. just bounces back up, sounds like motor is straining. will get it into dealer this week, don't think I will have the top down in the mean time.

I guess it also depend on how long the top was opened and the temperature, if I leave mine open less tahn a couples of hours it almost close completely, but if it's opeened a full day or more (when I leave the top open while in the garage) then I miss an inch. I normally bring it as close as I can than open latches and finally while pulling it down by the middle handle re-press the button a bit to close and without leave my hand form th middle handle I latch the driver side, swap hands in the midle handle and latch passenger side.

And yes Tres, the cloth tops are easier to close, they are less subject to stretch..

It's a huge difference over my 05 (which had a vinyl top). I put it down this morning to drive to work, when I put it back up the top settled right onto the header. I always had to pull down on the 05's top to get it to close. I've also noticed the cloth top is quieter on the highway and doesn't buffet when semis drive by like the 05 top did.

Doug - what did you find out from the dealer regarding the top? Mine will still drop all the way down.

Called and let them know, I have an appointment next week the 29th to get the stripes painted so I'll have them look at that then. They have to keep it a week. have not had it down at all, miss it already, weather has been nice. Other bummer is when I get the windows tinted, can't roll down the windows for a week also, so again no top down.

As for if I had the windows down all the way, they are auto down anytime you put the top up or down.

Update: It never fails, take the car into the dealer with a problem and then no problem. Kept the top up for about a week, got to the dealer and droped it, put it back up and worked fine...DUH. They had someother things to do to it so they said they would drop the top and leave it down for a few hours and see what happens....
Still waiting......
