Some of the earlier production cars have shaker problems - there a thread on it somewhere around here.

anyway in short The way to find out if its a problem system is to turn on the stereo- and hold buttons 3& 6 at the same time - it will go through a test sequence - during the last display you will see a number with a letter - if if shows 'a' then you have the problem cd player- take it to the dealer and have it replaced with the 'b' version.

In the meantime, power off the unit, wait a few moments, then power the unit back on.

I know this sounds too simple to be true, even sounds stupid. But SixtySix suggested that to me the first time my Shaker 500 malfunctioned, and it really works. A few times the unit has skipped or given me a "bad disc" message, or some other malfunction. It appears that somehow the unit gets "confused". Every time I turn it off then back on, it is fine for a long while.

Like Tony / SixtySix wrote, the more computerized our cars become, the more we have to treat them like a computer. So, "reboot" or "restart" your Shaker, and see if that helps.

Of course, if it continues chronically you will have to go to the dealer for a warranty swap out. But try this in the meantime. It has worked great for me!!

Simply turn the unit off while it is in CD mode. Push the volume button to turn it off, wait a bit then push the volume button again to turn it on.

I know, and I agree, this sounds moronically simple. But it "reboots" or whatever my unit and straightens it out every time (only happend 2 or 3 times in two weeks; all self burned CDs). Also, take the CDs out and wipe them clean; I am finding that somehow the discs get dirty or dusty while inside the Shaker.

Again, if this doesn't help, or if you cannot eject your CDs, then the problem is more serious and you need to see the dealer. But hopefully this will work for you.

Good luck.

IF you cant get it to turn off by pushing the volume button you could - Disconnect your battery, wait a few and then reconnect it.. see if that reboots the system

have you tried to select the slot? then wait a few seconds perhaps 5-10 seconds and then try to eject?

I found you can hit buttons too fast with this system and it gets into a loop

I believe I read in an earlier thread that you could NOT tell if it was an early / problem model unit or a late / fixed Series B unit by the last character of the code it gives at the end of the self test.

Sounds like you are in a death loop with this Shaker. Probably time to see your dealer. Sorry.

Sounds like your going to have to go to the dealer on this then. the only thing left would be to disconnect the car battery and see if it causes the system to totally reset - which is what i would do before taking it in...

Just don't panic, that's what the warranty is for. It's still a great car.

Frustrating, discouraging, aggravating, all yes. But fixable under warranty.

Keep your chin up, Dave. Good luck, with Dad and your dealer.

You'll be fine. Take care.
