If you can live with it(orange peel)don't take it back to a dealer to have it painted unless you never want to see it again.Had orange peel on the tailgate of a 2002 ford ranger(it was baaaad),took it to the dealer, they agreed. They had the truck for over a month and ended up painting the tailgate, door, fender and hood without my permission. When I went to pick it up it was the worst mess I have ever seen. They ended up repainting the hood and tailgate again plus repairing everything else they screwed up.Should have made them get me another new truck. My daughter bought a new Mustang without a spoiler, had a ford dealer paint and install one, ended up painting it 4 times before they got it close to being right.Don't recommend letting a dealer paint it,if its bad get a profesional paint job you will like it much better.

The texture of the paint looks like a skin of an orange.

Look at an orange peel and notice the texture. A crappy paint job will have that same look. Usually caused by to much air in the paint gun when sparying the car.

I guess this is what it looks like?

Yea mine is over 80% orange peel... and what really bothers me is I have had 3 people pull up beside me and ask why I drove the car off the lot with that much orange peel! Its very noticable even from a distance...

Get it into the dealer ASAP...get the Ford rep involved and the Manager or owner of the dealership...best of luck....this should not be acceptable...I had bad paint on an 86 Mustang and waited too long to do anything about it...don't make the same mistake I did...make your concern known to all the people at Ford and don't let up...good luck!

I was real impressed with the fit and finish of the car. I guess there is slight orange peel, but it does not detract from the look of the car, nor is it immediately visible. Being Mineral Grey, it is probably less obvious.

Post the pictures and put it to a vote. Will make you feel better.

Yes - orange peel but for a mass production car, it was a real good paint job. The day after I got it, I put on my objective hat and checked things out. Everything fit, the doors, trunks, hood. Gaps were really good, etc.

"Mass Produced Cars".....this term should not be used as a pass or excuse for poor quality of workmanship...

It does'nt. It happens when the factory paints the car and there is too much air in the spray gun, or the paint / thinner mix was'nt right. The owner just noticed the orange peel when he washed the car.

If the condition is not too bad, it can be fixed or at least diminished with a 3 step hand rubbing process. But this guys best bet is to go back to the dealer and seek some satisfaction. I'm afraid he is in for an uphill battle though.

I just took delivery of a '05 GT Saturday and I washed it for the first time today and it is Black.

I just traded in a Jet Black '02 BMW 325Ci that I've kept immaculate, and it had every bit as much "orange peel" as my new '05 Mustang.

The paint on the '05 is light years ahead of past Mustangs I've had, only time will tell how well it will hold up.

I've been very aware of each '05 that has been at any local dealer and I have yet to see one that I would consider bad and I am ****.

It's not an excuse. But it really does depend on the degree of orange peel. Even if it has orange peel on 80% of the car. If it is not textured into the paint (You are able to feel it when you rub your hand on the paint.). They will likely not be willing to do anything about it. Since it is almost a feature of every car except high dollar marques(Rolls, Bently, Ferrari...). And getting rid of it. At any place less than a professional painter (Dealer, Macco, etc.) You run the risk of introducing swirls or burning through the paint. Since factory paint is generally harder than most aftermarket paints. It is very tough to get rid of imperfections (However that is not to say it is impossible). While if he considers it bad enough to go to the dealer. I would warn him to be ready to be let down by the decision.

If you are going to get it repainted...take it to the dealer, BUT make sure they have a body shop that YOU trust repaint it...

I would recommend taking the car to a body shop first before going to the dealer (get some opinions from some locals as to where they have been before) and see what they think of the finish. I am very lucky as to have a great body shop nearby that always is honest and quick, make sure you find one that you trust...
