Possible Stripped Lug , Can i replace? help?

hope this is the right section.
i was putting the wheels back on my 2006 GT the other day and as always i put the wheel up on the screw pieces that come out from the axle (sorry guys i dont know what they are called)
and then i put each lug on by hand only turning them about 2-3 times. i then used a air gun to put them on all the way and one of them seemed to get stripped. i took it off and tried another lug on there and it seemed to not go on. it was very hard to tighen up and probably should have stopped when i noticed it but i didnt. the other 4 were ok. is there a way that i can replace the acutual piece that the lug screws on to the axle instead of replacing the whold piece where your rotors are and everything?? it would be the piece with the yellow paint on it in the picture. can i replace just that one piece or is it a whole piece?? help?

Not positive about the GT as I have never looked. But typically those lug nut studs have a spline pattern shoulder and press in from the back. They can be replaced with a new stud and the proper tools.

On my '04 GT you could. You just have to remove the caliper and rotor.

Wheel Studs are what they are called.

Replace the wheel stud...... or I should say have it replaced as it will need to be pressed in.

on was on either this site or another and a member add wheel adapters or spacers on his car. in the thread he shows him using a press and pressing out the lug stud, you my be able to rent this tool from autozone or buy it online, i dunno for sure. then you could put the new lug stud in the freezer for a few hours and the install it. it might be easier to put the new one in this way.

There are tools to remove and replace the wheel studs. As stated above, you have to remove the caliper. Longer wheel studs are sometimes required for spacers. Not very difficult, just take your time. For future reference, tighten your lugnuts in a star pattern until they contact the rim. Then snug them down again in a star pattern. Torque them down after the car is lowered and preferably by hand. This will prevent wheel vibration and is safer for the rim.

you should be able to hit it out with a hammer and when installing the new one use the lug nut to pull in the new one. You may need to add a few flat washers so your lug nut doesn't bottom out before the stud is seated all the way. Use a torque wrench to tighten your lug nuts. TQ to 100 ft pounds!

thanks for all your responses. i had a buddy of mine who i was telling also and he mentioned about getting it re-threaded if possible (if its not that bad). is there any advantage of one over the other, apart from cost? im not a mechanic and dont want to screw it up so i want to make sure i cover my bases..

I would probably replace it over trying to rechase the threads. Sometime there isn't much materal left when rethreading a stud.
