What??? I realize what higher octanes are used for. No one is claiming that they give a magical power boost or will suddenly give you an extra 10mpg.

There's also more to it than compression. High compression does not equal high performance. Just like low compression does not equal low performance. Compression is also NOT the only reason to need a higher octane.

His car is *tuned for 93 octane*. If the tune were working properly...running higher than 93 will have no effect. But running lower than 93 WILL have negative effects.

Not trying to be a ***, but do some homework on your fuel types, and truly understand what the numbers mean! It's all based off of BTU's, it takes X amount of BTU's to make X amount of HP. The lower the octane the higher the BTU's, and the higher the octane the lower the BTU's. So that means 93 Octane burns cooler that 91 octane, and 87 Octane burns hotter than 91 octane. So in this case where the car is pinging using 93 octane fuel, then you would not want to decrease octane, but instead increase octane by adding octan boost(110) available at most auto parts stores or by using cam2 racing fuel(104-118) or using aviation fuel(usually 100-101). So all this in a nut shell, The more you increase cylinder compression or increase ignition timing the Cooler you will want your fuel to burn to eliminate pre-fire detonation(Ping/Knock). MR-STANG if you have not got your pinging issue fixed yet, call Bama back tell them your real unhappy and you would like to talk to Doug Stuttard, Mr. Bama himself. He is hard to get a hold of these days so leave a message to speak with him. He is big on customer satisfaction and he will get you squared away. good luck.

It blows my mind that people still waste their time and money on BAMA tunes.

Replace the fuel filter? On an at the time new car? God, either they can't admit their tunes have issues and displace the blame or they don't have a clue. They really think their tunes are "not near the edge" yet they ping with name brand gas if the throttle body or fuel filter is less than pristine? Lol...

If you're pinging, it should take 1, MAYBE 2 revisions for an experienced tuner to dial In the a/f and ignition voltage from a datalog.

This whole thread is just further evidence that BAMA doesn't have a clue what they are doing.

Have to agree with this. I was very unimpressed with BAMA. Save your money for a dyno tune. Ensure you car is actually running properly for the modifications made to it. I know BAMA tests their tunes on their dyno. That's great for the car they're testing it on. Two different cars may run similar but not identicle.

I was just at my local Ford dealer last week getting some work done and inquired about the Ford Racing tune, mentioned BAMA tunes to them and they shut them down quick! Said a lot of people are coming in with problems running their tunes. I'm going to try their tune and see how it is..anyone have any input on the Ford Racing tune??

You can always look towards Steeda.

We have a great reputation in the industry & we sell vehicles sold at Ford Dealerships with our custom tunes installed on them.

Let me know if I can help assist with you a tune or help answer any questions.

Best Regards,

TJ
