Also keep in mind that Ford doesn't want to build so many that they have to start offering incentives to move them out of the dealerships. They've learned their supply and demand lesson.

So was the 1979 productiona ALL Dearborn, or were they still building Mustangs at more than one plant ??
The '79s were also built at the San Jose, California plant along with Mercury Capris (the first year they were built domestically).

hopefully with the ever decreasing sales of their flagship f150, Ford will realize that they should divert some of those resources to keeping up with the demand of mustang

Hope the F150 does not have decreasing sales. It is a major reason Ford is still in business today. Big sales and big profits.

I remember reading an article some months ago about how F150 sales were in fact down which is why I had hoped they would have diverted some of their resources to the Mustang then but it doesn't look like they did or will for next MY.

If I recall correctly (I'm not positive)only 35% of mustang production will be GT's this year ...so at 190000 units that s only 66500 GT's coup's and verts total. :geek:

Thanks V10 ... figured someone here would have more detailed stats than me !!

So was the 1979 productiona ALL Dearborn, or were they still building Mustangs at more than one plant ??

You also gotta figure the NEW Mustang is SHARING the Flat Rock plant, where before it had it's own. The new plant should be much more efficient, but enough so that it can build more Mustangs in a year than Dearborn was capable of ??

Doug
I don't know for sure, Doug, but I belive that Dearborn was the ONLY plant that built the Fox & SN-95 Mustangs.

The capacity of Flat Rock is about 285,000 vehicles based on a 5 day work week with 2 x 10 hour shifts (Mustang + Mazda 6). Our friends from Flat Rock haven't posted here in a while, but last they reported in they said Flat Rock was running 6 days a week with 2 x 10 hour shifts (340,000 vehicles). The plant is not designed to run 3 shifts. 20 hours production + 4 hours maintanence is max. for the plant. I got this information from a Ford manager at one of the 2005 Mustang tour events.
