An Option I'd Like To See

I wish Ford had something along the lines of GM's "ONSTAR" service. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Really nice feature. My sister's Yukon and her hubby's Sierra both have Onstar. I would like to see Ford offer something like it as well.

God what a waste. Over 90% of our GM trade-ins with it have let the subscription expire.

Oh no! Way cool! Over the last 2 years, each of them have locked the keys in the car once. One phone call and it's open! When the cell phone doesn't have signal, the car does! I think it's great. To each his/her own I guess.

A ford will not let you lock the keys in the car with the engine running. For people that are so forgetful they leave the keys elsewhere(and not leave the cell phone in the car too), typically they drive SUV's or sedans. In those cases with a Ford you just type in your keyless door entry code and unlock it again. You can always get a keyless pad for your Mustang too, and then lock your keys in the car on purpose so you don't have to carry them around at all(great for going to work/boating/camping/amusement parks).

They can keep this intrusion.

The thing about Onstar that bothers me is the people who answer the phones work for an outsourcer who pays their people crap and treat them like crap. I am sure the reason GM uses them is because they are always the lowest bidder but a cheap price always comes at a cost.

Ford briefly had their equivalent of OnStar avaiable on Lincolns.
Reportedly GM is loosing money on OnStar.

If you have a cell phone, you have no need for OnStar.

Yeah,

Onstar rocks, for people who don't have sense to keep track of thier keys! Just read that '03 and older OnStar is not gonna work anymore due to cellular changes. You will have to go and pay to have your equipment upgraded! But don;t worry the article said they will give you a free one year subscription...................if you buy another new car!!!!!!! I get a kick out of these bone heads calling OnStar to get 911. D'uh, just call 911 instead. The only real benefit is if you wreck and are incapacitated. But that is only good as long as you have the subscription andthe cell system doesn't change again.

People need to grow up and show some personal responsibility.

Rant Done,
Paul

PS this change is also affecting Mercedes and Lexus

If OnStar survives, the next step will be to outsource to an Indian call center.

"Yes, please may I help you...?"

I still think it would be a great OPTION. My sister ACCIDENTALLY locked the keys in it. Motor not running. She placed her keys on the console, shuffled through a few work items, mistook that set of keys for the set she uses for work(and did not need), and hit the door lock as she exited the car. Her calling OnStar saved me a 40 mile round trip to deliver the extra set. Her husband locked his in while out with his nephew. He didn't mean to lock the truck, someone hit the door lock by mistake. On Star to the rescue. No cell signal for us in Big Bend, but OnStar could make and receive phone calls. As for Big Brother, cell phones are tracked. I like the idea of choices. I would like it to be available. Would I buy GM because of it? No. I'm a Ford girl.

The thing is, that you could pay someone to unlock the car or deal with the inconvenience. We are talking about how probable of an occurence? You would be better banking the money and paying for the locksmith IF needed. I mean how much does this cost? Hardware and subscription.

Its like cell phone ins. You pay 5 bucks a month over a 2 year contract and have a deductable in case of a claim. Take that 120 bucks plus deductable and save it. If you have a loss buy a phone, if not money in pocket.

I just think this system is over kill for locking your keys in the car!

YMMV

A well hidden Ford keypad is all you need if you always lock the keys in the car.
There is no yearly subscription.

I love the exterior keypads on our two Explorers. They sure have come in handy... and alot less expensive than a stupid OnStar subscription.
