I get a new car for my wife about every 3 years but this is the last performance car I will ever own. I am almost 69 and I like all the bells and whistles on the new cars but I have too much invested and too much love for this car to ever sell it and get something newer.

 

I like the Bullitt, but couldn't stomach the mark-up. It did have a Nav option, though, and my dealer was offering to order it that way for me.

 

$3300 for the Bullitt SE package was well worth all the improvements over the GT my friend.
Nope. No nav from the factory.

Yeah my salesman was an idiot also. Started asking me all kinds of questions about options until he got edumacated.

 

oh and self locking doors .... whats up with that.

 

I got my Mustang off the floor, and it came with reverse sensing...no camera thank god.

Geeze Louise....been driving for 45 years and haven't backed over anyone yet. Besides, I have a convertible for unrestricted visiblilty and loud mufflers as a warning to the little juvenile delinquents riding their bikes on the sidewalk instead of the street. And if they just happen to get in the way, they're wearing bike helmets, right?

And hey, my backup cam comes in handy when I'm backing out at home - the Recaro baby seat creates a HUGE blind spot.

 

Boy... call me what you will... but with young kids, toys, animals, who knows what/who... I would NEVER trust that! After driving commercial panel van/cube truck for many years, you either back in to the spot - or physically walk around the back of the vehicle before getting in and starting the engine and backing out. Yes - I have killed a few hand trucks when I didn't follow that.

It's just like using your mirrors to change lanes on the freeway. Sure - you can move your head forward or sideways to get a better angle of the mirror and then go. But every so often you do that and you realize someone was in your blind spot and you just missed them. You HAVE to turn your head and look for a quick instant if you want to be 100% SURE and 100% SAFE.

Same goes for reverse - even moreso!

 

Of course I still look and use my mirrors (especially the blind spot mirrors), I just use the camera as a supplement to see what's directly behind the bumper. I never rely on it by itself. Actually for the first dozen or so times I backed up, I forgot I even had it because I'm so used to looking over my shoulder. I definitely don't need it, but it's nice to have. Also, with reverse Up-Left on the MT-82, a couple times I have inadvertently moved forward when I thought I was in reverse (and vice versa) due to the camera delay, so now I wait a second before starting to let the clutch out - just to make sure I'm heading in the right direction lol. That's why I always hated driving cars with reverse Up-Left.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing cameras in place of the door mirrors, actually mount the cameras in a better vantage point. Then have a heads up display for each mirror. I'm sure there is some car out there with that already.

 

There definitely is a lot of fun for a person in a simple ride. Fewer distractions pulling you away from the world outside.

I've had some fun to drive cars, I have some now .... but one I let get away and wish I had back today just because it was so fun was a 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 with 4 speed. It had an AM radio and heater. Manual brakes, manual steering, manual seats, manual mirrors, manual windows, NO AC. Vents were two large "barn door" things under dash.

I upgraded wheels and tires, my first set of B F Goodrich Radial T/A 225/60-14. Gabriel Strider adj shocks, a few minor engine mods .... it was a blast and comfortable on short rides or longer trips.

Kids growing today will never know the pleasures of simplicity .... I still enjoy driving my '77 F-150 4x4, rust and all.

I can well imagine the fun driving a 34 Ford coupe with flathead V8 power and old 3 spd transmission with few gages on the back roads or across Rt 66.

But I have bought a couple current model year cars, one I kept around for 23 years and 160K miles as our road trip / go to races car .... the other I have had for 13 years ..... mostly same uses so it has only 77K miles now. To say I won't buy new or near new again .... can't say.

She was a hoot to drive and she was cramped and harsh riding and noisy and her 'weather equipment' couldn't keep the weather out.
I'm happy to have left all that behind me and I thoroughly enjoyed my Mustang today. I had no problem ignoring some of the things that bug you guys. You don't have to be irritated by the fact that your new Mustang has backup sensors. In fact, you can turn them off. Focus on what you enjoy and you might be surprised at how quickly you forget about that other stuff.

 

It's just a matter of taste I guess. Some people want gadgets and games in their cars. Nobody wants variable displacement. Honestly I prefer a mustang to be stripped and raw as possible. My cobra didn't have many options except the drivers seat had 12 functions. My 92 Notchback was the most enjoyable of the 4 mustangs that I've owned. It had power windows and locks and that was good enough. Since '05, the mustang had been a different animal. A better more refined car but not as fun. Just wish we had build options again. Wish you could order a stripped GT like we did in the early 90's.

 

I love my car as is. It's a complete oxymoron of new/old tech, luxury/track items. It's a perfect blend. With the muffler deletes on, it kinda loses the luxury aspect lol, but with all the nice interior lighting and Glass Roof, it looks like a much more expensive car...with manual Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, 3.73 gears, manual transmission, and 420hp. I loved my Cobra seats in my 03 GT, but the fricken driver's seat weighed like 65 pounds alone. I'm sure the Recaros with side airbags aren't light, but I'm sure they're lighter than that. Plus, they're way more comfy than the Cobra seats!

When I was old, May 2010, I ordered a 2011 Shelby gt500.
When I was older, May 2013, I ordered a 2014 Shelby GT500.... ( still have the 11 )
Now that I'm really old, I can't rule out ordering something newer.

I can confirm that. I've seen him, parked next to his cars, and I'm here to tell you that 1 Alibi 2 is indeed really old!!!! I'm getting pretty close myself.

And he'll probably get a swelled head when he reads this, but his SGM GT500 is killer. No matter how many pics he posts, they just don't do it justice.

Plus he always saves me a spot at the Thursday cruise so I have to say nice things.

If you don't want the TPMS function get a 05-06 gauge cluster. It's kinda work around but you won't ever have to deal with the TPMS issues. Of corse you would also need to have it programmed with your mileage. Swapping out clusters is super easy.
