Okay, So who got an extended warranty?
How many 05 and 06ers went for an extended warranty? And if so, for how many years/miles? Is it thru Ford or a 3rd party? Is an extended warranty a good idea, or a rip-off?
Edit: Dear mods, before you move this thread, I hope it can stay here, since the question is for recent buyers of 05's and 06's. Thanks. :worship:

Hmmmm, $1530 for 7 years/75,000 miles. After the 3rd year, $1530 can be one trip to the dealership with a Tranny problem. Unless someone's going to modify the engine to where the dealer would have a problem with it, not seeing how it's not a good idea.

I choose not to take the extended warranty on my 06. It's a gamble. But from past experience (22 Years and 7 vehicles, sold my 86 VW Golf after 12yrs) the largest expence I have had was replacing tires. Ok, the ocassional battery, altenator or starter that's fair enough, but I feel if you maintain the vehicle reasonably well and don't thrash it, you're better off keeping your hard earned cash rather than giving it away. Maybe I'm just an optimist...

I got one...extended 5yr/75,000 mile for $850.
Swore I'd never get one, too. <_<

Same here, $850 for 5y/75,000 miles and they are not a waist. If you plan on keeping the car a long time, it is worth it in the long run. I had an 02 V6 for school, driving it there everyday, had 55,000 miles on it when I lost it in the flood, but when I went past the 36,000, i started to have problems that thank god I had the extended warranty that covered every fix on the vehicle. I probably would have spent about $4000 out of my pocket just to have everything fixed if i didn't have the warranty. Its not a waist, its worth it if you are going to keep it a long time

Dealer would not negotiate on the price of the Ford ESP, so I nixed it. They wanted $1600-1700 for the 6-75. I countered, and they just flat said, can't do it. So they got nothing instead. I still have the factory 3-36, of course.
They also tried to sell us the usual Scotchguard/paint protection/undercoating etc. package for $1537. Probable cost to them is in the $300 range. They also got a big no thanks on that too.

I never buy an extra warranty on anything. Over 30 years my biggest expense has been our 98 Jimmy at 95,000 miles, which we decided to fix things and kept as a daily. Did the work myself cost of around $400 for things that a warranty would never cover. Plus shelled out $417 for light tranny work from an independent. You need to keep familiar with repairs, one vehicle helps with working on another one. Even if I do an engine someday on one of the Mustangs, money I saved is way more than I will spend. Any other vehicle, just trade it in, makes no difference, as long as its running.
I paid $1100 for 5yr/100K through Ford. I always get the extended warranty. Sometimes they pay, sometimes they don't. The peace of mind is worth it to me, especially when the tranny went out of my 97 SHO. I came out waaaay ahead on that one. Being the first year for the motor/tranny, there might be bugs so.....you never know.

Here are the warranty prices for the Ford ESP plans if purchased through my fleet department. You do not have to be a business.
All prices are for the premium plan and must be bought prior to 12mo/12,000 mi or there is a $100 surcharge from Ford.
5yr/75,000
5yr/100,000
6yr/75,000
6yr/100,000
7yr/75,000
7yr/100,000
My prices are lower than any of the ones I have seen posted here. I had posted the prices but figured i had better remove them so other dealers do not get upset with me. if anyone is interested in a warranty, email me at isellford@aol.com and i will give you a quote.
Read the fine print on the extended warranties to see EXACTLY what they cover before you make a decision, DON'T take the salesmans word for it, he won't be there 4 years from now.
Also remember, if you finance the warranty cost into your loan, you're paying a lot more than you think for it.

Ford is notorious for pushing these extended warranties. This hard sell has happened every time I've purchased a new Ford vehicle (4 to be exact) over the last 8-9 years. These are huge profit margins for the dealers. I have never bought an extended warranty and probably never will. So far, I have never regreted this decision after the purchase of 8 new cars in my lifetime. SO I have a track record of not accepting these extended warranties and have never been bitten. If some big repair is needed on my Mustang after 3 years, then I guess luck is just balancing itself out. If you add up all the extended warranties that I've never purchased (from cars to toasters), I figure I come out ahead by >$15,000. It is basically extra insurance that you will likely never need. If you can afford it and it makes you more comfortable, then buy it.
I plan to keep my car generally in stock form (non-voiding mods). I bought the extended warranty. The piece of mind is totally worth it. And any big repair and it will pay for itself. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have some protection when I was buying a first year car.
