Its a risk. And California is desperate for money. Many of these bureaucracies have confiscation penalties in their myriad of 'rules'. So make sure the reward is commensurate with the risk.
I don't think you are going to find a shop that will doctor the results. Emission computer report directly to the DMV. And there are so many cars in So. Calif that these places don't hurt for business.

Have you considered divorce?

Not a smog certification, your residency in Calif. If you're not getting pulled over for something, why would anyone check.

If you keep it registered in Fl, make sure you don't make the neighbors mad or they can turn you in.

HEY - thanks for providing this link... I have two ARIZONA-plated cars residing on my street for nearly a year now...and usually parked in front of my house. I wouldn't bother, except that they're staying at the a-hole drug dealer's place, a few houses down.

Would you and your wife be able to live separately for a while, with frequent "vacations" to the other state?

Have you seriously checked out the costs of housing, cost of living, etc. in CA, and compared that against the income you (two) will be earning?

I guess you don't need to know it's a foolish thing to do, huh?

If you have any firearms, leave them with your Dad in FL.

Trust me this was no fast or easy decision for us and one that took quite awhile to get used to once we made it..... We broke down everything; and I mean everything! We found out tax wise how much more we were gonna pay, living costs, etc...
