oil change questions.

k guys. im gonna change my oil here in like 500 miles.

im no newbie to car maintenance, but i have a question.

ive got 15k on the car and im sure the previous owner just put in plain old 5w20.

all i ran in my last car was mobil 1. great stuff.

can i change to mobil 1 after 15k of normal oil and have no issues.

i have heard lots of opinions both ways, and i wanted to get some extra opinions from you guys.

thanks in advance.

If you want to, go ahead...no problems whatsoever. I'm running some Pennzoil Platinum because I got it free. After that is over, I'll run whatever full synthetic I can get free or really cheap. If I run out of free/cheap full syn, I'll run Motorcraft semi-syn. That is a darn good oil at a great price. More than adaquate for 5K miles under normal conditions.

Should be fine. I use Mobil 1 or Penzoil Platinum with the FRPP filter. Remeber it's 6 quarts.

The FRPP filter is good, but too pricey for me. If you want to save some $$ just go with the standard Motorcraft filter. It is an excellent quality filter and only about $3, available everywhere.

like everyone said you should be fine. I switched at 24k. but anyhow let me run it down for you.

If you were sitting at 115k I would be a bit concerned, synthetic oil has detergents that cleans and conditions oil seals, on the higher mileage cars there has been alot of build up on those seals, that get to a point where it actually helps the seal keep the oil inside your engine, which is where we all like to keep it. When you then switch to synthetic oil those detergents clean away that grit and debree and the seals, being tore up, well they arent keeping oil in the car anymore.

so 15k miles, you should be fine.
