Personally I'd never say that wheel locks are a waste of time. They're simply a pain in the !@#^ sometimes. Personally I'd rather have them on the car than risk coming out to the car and

The wheel thieves of the world know about the socket trick, and odds are they have an assortment of wheel lock keys too.

Do the wheel locks even do anything? We tested the one my buddy had and his fit onto both his wheel lock nut and the lock nuts on my wheels. I think they might all be the same, even though they have a registration card etc

There are only a certain number of patterns and a lot fewer than a regular key.
Some are bound to be the same.

I also don't care much for wheel locking lugs. I have a new set from the factory that came with my car, and I never put them on. They look fugly compared to the other 4 lugs, and they are a PITA a lot of the time. I've got all the active anti-theft stuff, and if that doesn't prevent my wheels from getting stolen, then I will just claim it on my insurance if they do. If anybody wants a never used set of the wheel locks, I may sell them.....

I was just changing my rims this weekend to my summer ones... and sure enough the incline sensor worked.

Car was locked (so the alarm was armed) started jacking the car.
3 cranks later <honk><honk><honk><honk>
So not only for towing, but if someone wants to steal your rims.

UPDATE:

Gator Grip socket for 1/2" DOES NOT WORK.

The socket barrel is too big to clear the opening in the Fanblades.

I have three wheel locks still on the car. Guess I'll have to break out the cold chisel unless someone has any other idea?

Had a similiar issue with a set of tuner lugs where the key stripped the lug so it would no longer grip the key. The shop I brought my stang to was able to get a socket around the tuner lug by banging it onto the lug (which in turn destroyed the guys socket but thankfully it was a Sears Craftsman so he got it replaced for free). So once it was on tight he wrenched it off. No damage to the wheels at all. Good luck!

We have this wheel lock removal tool kit, wish I had a better pic of it. But works 95% of the time.

Other than that, the 2nd pic works 100% of the time

I can relate to this story!

I bought my Stang at Don Knott Ford and they didn't give me a key so I took it back to them and they removed the wheel locks for free. Down the road I decided to upgrade my rotors. I finish the left two wheels but the right front wheel I noticed that they torqued the bolts ultra tight. So tight that when I used the key it deformed! So I need go back to the dealer and have them remove the locks for good. Locks are a waste of money. Friends if someone wants your car they are going to steal the whole thing! I will never use locks again they are a PITA and a false sense of security. Plus if some dealer bozo over torques you lug nuts your screwed. Like me

Hahahaha!

When I try to access the wheel lock remover I get an error "product not found".

I guess the local car thief club has bought out the inventory at hand...

I ended up having my locks removed by my local Goodyear. It cost me $20 (which I suspect went into the mechanic's pocket and not the till).

I bought a new set of locks from Leo 06, but I am thinking that the locks aren't worth the trouble and/or hassle of having them on the car.

20 is a fair price. Did you go thru the front office? Or just pull up to the shop door and talk to a tech?

I pulled up to the shop door and talked to the techs. They were cool about it and took care of things within 15 minutes.

And the moral of the story is: dont use wheellocks. If body shops can get tools to take them off anyway, so can a car thief, and so the lugs dont matter anyway.

Most Dealers Have Numbered Mastersets For the Oem Wheel Locks Which are Mcgard Btw! Once Removed You Can Get a New Key With the Number Or Replace With New Set or Go Back to Stock Lugs!

Little Bag Key Comes in Has Replacement Number With it Usually.
