It's a bead of sealant/gasket maker, not weld.....does look like it though. I have a cut in the rubber air inlet(Right at the throttle body) Other than that....no faults that I can find. B)
bullittman, do you think that the sealant is at a seam, spanning a cut in the firewall, or is it just gooped on at that spot ? I saw the same thing on another picture out here, it could be fairly standard.

And If there were any,I would not be too proud to tell.My 2003 mach 1 was full of them and I let everyone know it.

I have two things wrong with my car. One of them is the tires. They keep making this squeeling sound whenever I take off. I couldn't find anything in the owners manual about what RPMs to take off at, so figured 4000 RPMs sounded like a good starting point. I've also noticed it when I shift into second. I'm starting to get used to it though.

I haven't exactly figured out the other problem yet. I can't see anything wrong with my car when I look at it, but when I drive it people are always pointing and/or honking.

Other than that I have had no problems at all.

Hey guys...this isn't StangNet. If you want to puff yourselves up that you aren't stupid enough to go buy this year's model, take your ego elsewhere.
Whatever.

It is great to here that there has been no major problems with the new Mustang. The two GTs I've seen were all but perfect. Ford seems to have been able to produce a quality car even in the first year. I think it is early to fully celebrate, but initial signs are really good.

I think people have gotten a little unrealistic in thinking that cars should not make noises. Intakes, rears and gears make noise. Especially sports cars.

I look at it this way. We had a poster state that his '03 Mach 1 which is a special edition practically end of production top of the line Mustang had several issues. If a car that's been made for 30+ years STILL has issues, who's to say that a completely redesigned model won't have a single issue? All cars break. Doesn't matter if it's a $240,000 Ferrari or a $29,000 Ford. No car is perfect. We need to keep things in perspective.

I've had no issues with mine so far, but it's real early. I'd like to think everything will be okay, but I'm not going to freak out and declair the new Mustang a complete failure if something should happen. $50,000 Corvettes break down. Woman across the street from me has a C5. It went away on a flatbed like 3x within the first 7 months of ownership. People still buy them.

Some one has to buy the first cars, there is always something wrong with any vehicle or product. Guess why, their man made and not a thing man made is perfect. I got screwed on the first order, now we wait on the second one. As long we have it for spring time.

True enough. Actually, Ferraris are notorious for not being dependable. High strung, high maintenance prancing horses.

My guess is that Ford's pony will be less fickle.

You are going to burn your clutch in a few thousand miles. Don't dump it at 4k, that is aweful for the tranny.

For the second week I had my car, everytime I shut the door, the window would roll down 3/4th of the way. It did this for a couple days, I haven't had any problems since.

Also, every once in awhile, I have trouble shifting into 3rd. Feels like it just won't go in easily, especially around 4000rpm.

That's pretty serious - I'd be back to the dealership straight away for these issues.

Thanks for this tread, some great info to look for...

Personally i would raise all heck if any of these problems occur to me.There really is no need to put up with whirling sounds or hard shifting etc.Simply phone up dealership and tell them to fix it.

I understand any car can have troubles to start with, heck we bought a 99 toyota solara when they first came out,and right from dealership it had ding in rear panel, wipers didnt work and fuel pump made a wierd noise.I flipped out and told them to fix right there and then. They did and since then the car has been great.Dont put up with this stuff guys get your dealership to fix asap.

Moreover, that's what you should do if you want the car to get better. If a large number of people report the same problem, Ford will see it in their warranty claims numbers and will have an opportunity to figure out how to prevent it, or at least catch it in testing. It's better for Ford to get the bugs out early. If they don't know the problem is happening, they don't know there's something they need to fix.

hey man, i was reading the owner's manual this morning, they said you may need to recalibrate the windows after taking delivery, check it out in the owner's manual...it tells you how to do it

Think there is a middle ground between 1 "It's a Mustang and its perfect and 2 "First year model - so its a piece of junk". Last time I checked, the car was made by Ford not Jesus. I am going to get one but waiting for two reasons: Its a sellers market and any MAJOR problem will PROBABLY come to light in the first 90 days to six months. Suggest you go to the web site for recalls and TSB's to get a reality check. From the cars I have checked at the dealers, they have done a pretty good job with the body work. Can't really comment on the mechanical side but it appears this "howling sound" has been mentioned a number of times and is probably normal in most cases

I have two minor problems.

1 They missed a spott in the buffing process and it has a small quater or half dollar size hazey area on the door. 2 is on the same door at the bottom it was dinged, but is barley visable. Took it to my friends body shop and he told me he see's alot of those dings in new cars. Happens on the truck. It's all very minor anf getting fixed. As far as the whining sound of the gears. Thats why i bought the darn thing. I love to here it whine and growl.
